Newt Gingrich Defends Trump Spending Hours a Day Doing Nothing: Churchill Took Naps in His Pajamas

Newt Gingrich Defends Trump Spending Hours a Day Doing Nothing: Churchill Took Naps in His Pajamas

by Aidan McLaughlin | Feb 4th, 2019, 8:00 am

-snip-

An apparently disgruntled White House staffer leaked President Donald Trump‘s entire schedule for the past three months to Axios. It found that Trump has spent a whopping 60% of his schedule in “Executive Time.” Trump is an early riser, and takes the first five hours of the day in Executive Time: “in the residence, watching TV, reading the papers, and responding to what he sees and reads by phoning aides, members of Congress, friends, administration officials and informal advisers,” per Axios.

To Newt Gingrich, this report and the response to it is yet another example of the “elites” being “ignorant.”

Winston Churchill was known to take an afternoon power nap of at least an hour, which he claimed allowed him to work productively into the night. It’s materially different to Trump spending five hours every morning watching television and tweeting, but we understand Gingrich’s point.

UPDATE: Newt is still tweeting:

I have visited the Churchill's bunker and it is very small. Trump lives in the White House and spends
his weekends @ mere large Oh.

Newt Gingrich "great historian."

Churchhill was a drunk and as soon as the war was over, the UK threw him out of office because they all knew it. I for one wouldn't chose him as any model for a civic leader. Reagan was becoming senile virtually throughout his entire time in office. A condition apparently accelerated by getting shot. Newt is a guy that has a rather distorted view of history and shouldn't be relied upon for historical insights.

The British people felt that Labour policies were better suited for the post-war than conservative policies.

They all knew he was a drunk, but it was his politics that got him thrown out.

Obama's vacation stirs criticism

Last week, a few hours after the White House announced the president would head to Martha’s Vineyard Thursday for a 10-day vacation, the Republican National Committee sent out a press release querying, “And this is the same White House that says they are focused on the economy?”

Republican presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich told Fox News host Sean Hannity that Obama “ought to cancel his vacation — period.”

including pretty much every briefing book and memo that came across his desk. He wrote tens of thousands of pages of memos to staff in his government. He traveled to war zones multiple times (Egypt, France) prepared assiduously for meetings with foreign leaders, cultivated alliances, took advice from experts (especially when it came to science), etc. etc,

Yes, he drank--a lot. He was also a racist and an imperialist.

I'd say the racism is about the only thing Churchill and Trump have in common.

Also, Churchill had way better taste in art.
