Northam is a state governor. He's not a congressman or any sort of national public official. Why are people who don't live in Virginia demanding his resignation (or demanding he not resign)?
Yes, yes, I know they have a right to express their views like anyone else, but at the end of the day, isn't this really a local matter for the people of the State (excuse me, Commonwealth) of Virginia to deal with?
Enlighten me.

(3,243 posts)But, because people like to blame the other side politically, this has become an issue outside the Commonwealth of Virginia.

(62,421 posts)once more trot out their "both sides do it" crap. Now they have one example for the Dems so that equals any and all that Republicans do.
Also, with state races this year this may be a way for the media to create a horse race. They need a horse race to get eyeballs which in turn raises their advertising fees.
just an opinion.

(7,888 posts)of comments from DU members in their diaries and comments have expressed a similar view. I don't have a pony in the world of Virginia officials, I do not live there. Let Virginia decide and take action on their consensus.
Should he stay or should he go? What say you Virginia?

(326 posts)Knowing that Republicans are behind the publication of the picture in question as well as the accusation against Fairfax, I prefer to wait and see whats going to happen next instead of asking for Northams immediate resignation.
I dont think every local issue should stay local, because it obviously depends on the severity of the incident in question, but in Northams case, I absolutely agree with you.

(19,960 posts)Northam will be keeping his head down for a few days to see how this Fairfax accusation pans out.

(13,390 posts)This is a symptom of a pathology that is embedded in a culture that relies on white supremacy. The fact that it festers within our government is nationally relevant.

(2,840 posts)But I would think most consumers of national news media know that racism is bad.
Mind you, I'm not in any way defending Northam or saying he should defy the sense of Virginians if they say he should resign. But whether they do or don't, or whether he does or doesn't, isn't my call, is it?

(94,591 posts)What happens in Virginia impacts the 2019 Leg races, which impacts redistricting and voter protections in 2020. How's that?

(43,182 posts)If this were a city council person of some little known town, probably not.
But there are only 50 states in this country, so if something significant arises about one of them, it's probably going to get attention.
