Just attended my first ⁦@realDonaldTrump⁩ rally where my colleague BBC cameraman Rob Skeans was attacked by a Trump supporter. The crowd had been whipped up into a frenzy against the media by Trump and other speakers all night #TrumpElPaso

American, foreign, it doesn't matter.

The son of a Canadian friend of mine was in D.C. soon after Cheney invaded Iraq. The Republicans were all going nuts because France and Germany wouldn't join us (remember Freedom Fries and Freedom Toast?). My Canadian friend had been Canada's ambassador to the USA under Bill Clinton, and his son was in Washington visiting friends from the time when his dad was stationed there. They are from Québec, and the guy was on the phone to someone back home when some Republican "patriot" heard his French, came up to him, cursed him out for being a "Frenchie," and spit on him. I'm sure the spitter wears the red hat today.

...."BBC spokeswoman said Skeans was “violently pushed and shoved by a member of the crowd” as he covered the rally. “The man was removed by security and Ron is fine. The president could see the incident and checked with us that all was OK,” she said. “It is clearly unacceptable for any of our staff to be attacked for doing their job.”

O’Donoghue said the goading of the crowds against the media is a “constant feature of these rallies”. “I have been spat at before, they hurl abuse at American colleagues in particular,” he added.

The American president has a strained relationship with the media. He has often branded reporting he doesn’t like as “fake news” and said that journalists are enemies of the people.

In August last year United Nations experts warnedthat Trump’s anti-media invective increased the risk of journalists being targeted with violence. In October he used a campaign speech to attack what he called media “hostility” after a wave of pipe bombs were sent to senior Democrats, prominent critics and the broadcaster CNN." ....(More)

Prediction:

1.) This will not be curtailed until someone is gravely injured or killed.
2.) Trump deliberately fail to make any comment denouncing the act for as long as possible.
3.) Any teleprompter denouncement he makes will have some kind of "but" qualifier.
4.) Hours after making said denouncement he will blame the victim and/or "fake" media for the violence.
5.) MAGAts will find a cheap and disgusting way to mock the victim, much like they did here:
