Fox News tells Americans to stop complaining about their shrunken tax refunds

Many Americans are actually paying more in federal taxes thanks to the Trump tax "cuts."

JOSH ISRAEL FEB 13, 2019, 9:14 AM

As Americans begin to prepare their 2018 federal tax returns, many are facing the unpleasant surprise that their tax refunds will be smaller this year or that they may even owe money to the government. This comes despite — or perhaps because of — the tax bill passed by the Republican Congress in late 2017 and signed by President Donald Trump, which Trump falsely promised would give everyone a tax cut, but actually raised taxes on many middle class Americans.

On Wednesday, Fox & Friends attempted to spin the situation, blaming taxpayers who should have somehow known to have adjust their withholding a year ago and should have saved more.

Noting that the average tax refund has dropped 8.4 percent since last year, guest and Fox Business Network host Charles Payne claimed Americans should have used their “fatter paychecks” more wisely.

Withholding too much and then making a refund was a very clever thing to do - people think of their refund amount, not how much tax they paid. This is going to make them realize how much they pay and even if it is less, they won't see the "tax cut" for themselves. Stupid Dotard shoots self in foot again.

Many American families have two options under the shrinking middle class Republican plan.
1. Pay your bills and try to subsist with whatever money you earn.
2. Adjust your withholding to a larger amount so you won’t have to pay taxes (oh, shit, we got a tax cut from Trump) and not be able to pay your bills.

Either way, you’re fucked if you are a hard working, three job minimum wage earning Democrat or Republican trying to survive while the rich are “trickling down” untold riches to the middle class.

FUX news, and their arrogant multi million dollar pontificators who have absolutely no clue (just like our idiot president) about how difficult it is to survive in a declining society, can shove it where the sun doesn’t shine.

but, folks should have been paying attention when this whole set up went through and Yes, they should have adjusted their withholdings after it was adjusted for them.

I mean, in all the hoopla about finally passing a bill and getting it signed into law, Republicans in the House and the Senate were very careful to notify their constituents that the retroactive nature of the tax cuts was going to have an effect on wages they'd already been paid, and they should all call their $1,000-an-hour tax attorneys to figure out the most efficacious changes to make to their withholdings. They should also be extra careful not to just look at their net wages, but figure out if their employer was also increasing their co-pay for health insurance and other benefits to eat up any extra money from the tax cut.

You would have expected Republicans to have spent the aftermath of their tax cuts just whooping and hollering and high-fiving each other while they took innumerable victory laps on all the news shows, but instead, they were very sober and careful and solicitous of all wage earners, even the lowest paid among us.

I don't remember it that way, but I'm sure it happened that way.

In the lead up period to the 2016 election Trump and Republicans framed their tax bill as "oh my God regular everyday Americans are being so over-taxed by 'decades of democrats socialist policies' that, vote for us, and we're going to give them back their money in a meaningful way that will change every tax payer's economic lives."

To me that would imply people could expect to go shopping for better cars, or better houses, or even just make it from one payday to the next with an easing of their budget concerns. That in essence, the Republicans were going to take the tax burden off of their shoulders. Its not only about refund amounts a few hundred dollars one way or the other. Trump was running ads promising everyone $4000 a year. Why aren't they complaining that they still have the overall tax burden?
