NC substitute teacher resigns, saying MLK committed suicide

North Carolina’s ABC affiliate WTVD has a truly disturbing story about what can only be described as one of the worst substitute teachers ever. According to a Rand Road Elementary School parent, his 10-year-old son told him that a substitute music teacher called out the “athletic gear” outfit he was wearing, calling it “prison attire.” Yes, this is straight-up racist. No, this isn’t the end of the story. Not by a lot.

According to the parent, the substitute teacher also told the students that Martin Luther King Jr. was not actually assassinated by James Earl Ray on the evening of April 4, 1968 on the porch of his motel room in Memphis, Tennessee. No, according to this looney tune, James Earl Ray couldn’t have pulled the trigger that killed the civil rights leader because Martin Luther King Jr. committed suicide. This so-called educator told the students that the concept of MLK’s assassination was a “complete fabrication.” No, it’s not over. There’s more.

Finally, this woman—who may or may not be having some kind of emotional and mental crisis—told the children that if they did not believe that Donald Trump was a Christian, they were going to hell—even if they considered themselves Christian.

Reports said that the school “froze” the substitute’s employment pending an investigation but that investigation is effectively over, as the teacher has tendered her resignation.

How do people like that even function? How is it possible to get on in the world when you have no grasp of reality?

There are people who let their driving be controlled by abstract symbols - things like words on a sign or the color of a light strung up at an intersection - even if there is actually no cross traffic.

Because I like to think of my feet as individuals - Stephen Wright.

I don't know why your post made me think of that line, but it did!

All those pesky signs on the road...I know! Telling you how fast you can't go, where you shouldn't drive, how you shouldn't turn. Always so negative. So few of them are positive and uplifting. You never see a sign saying "You do that rather well!"

Why is that?

Anyway...the person in the OP still seems nice.

Years ago, after finishing grad school and while seeking employment, I took a job as a substitute teacher with a local school district.

The only thing they wanted to know about me was whether I had tuberculosis.

Since I did not have tuberculosis, I was thus fully qualified to take over classrooms full of students.

Seriously. I filled out an application and attached my TB test result. Expecting an interview of some kind, my first call back was to show up at a high school, report to the office where I was told by a staffer to go to the classroom of that teacher and the lesson plans should be on the desk.

No human being interacted with me in any significant way before they turned me loose on the kids.

At lunchtime, I asked some of the other teachers, "Isn't there any concern that I might be crazy?" and one of them looked at me and asked, "Okay, are you crazy?" I said no, and that settled the matter.

While I was actually able to take over math and science courses and became frequently-requested by teachers of those subjects, the rest of the time was sort of "choose your own adventure".

I once had an English class who had just finished reading The Great Gatsby. I had only ever seen the movie.

Imagine my surprise when one of the kids broke the news to me, "The book doesn't end that way."

I mean, other than maybe his taste in music, how is MLK even connected to her subject? It sounds like she had a very large ax to grind and she picked the wrong place to do it. This woman deserves to be fired IMHO.

Must be stopped.

She should be forced to write a letter of apology to each student and to their parents. And barred from teaching ever again.
How dare an "authority figure" state such crap!!

This insanity is contagious among the MAGA assholes. It's passed by word-of-mouth as fact. They don't read.
