1. Good advice ... not everyone votes every single time (even though they should) but life ...

gets in the way. For something so important, voting rights should be at the very least, the most single important thing to be preserved and NOT taken away (via these so called purges).

Only as an absolutely last resort, that the voter has obviously passed or moved away, after a period of years and years, and a confirmation sent to the last place of residence, should the purge of the voter be done.

After all, one doesn't lose their citizenship after two or so years, etc. They are permanent citizens unless they renounce it via established means already established. The Save Voters Act looks like a way to ensure that Americans' right to vote is honored and not tampered with via some edict on the part of republican representatives coming up with some flimsy excuse to purge the voter rolls.

Just to fight the Russians. I guess in a way, my family’s circle of fate will now be broken forever.

Katherine Harris purged many voters during the Y2K sElection
cycle who should have been permitted to vote.

(And the GOP's dirty politics is one reason I signed up to DU)

11. Prging voters who've missed, say, two Presidential elections ought to be a no-brainer.

Unless we completely change the way we verify that someone is eligible to vote on Election Day. How do other countries do it?

If voters are never purged it creates a different problem. A decade or so ago I was doing door-to-door campaigning, with voter lists in hand. Some addresses would have as many as five or six different last names connected to ten or more people at that address. Invariably it was because people who used to live there but no longer did had not been purged.

Missing local elections probably shouldn't be held against someone, but more than one Presidential Election indicates someone not very interested in voting.

Same day registration would solve most of the problems. At least so long as ID verification is simple. A library card ought to be good enough. Again, does anyone here know how they do it in other countries?
