Applying Occam's razor, it looked to me like he pulled an image off a RWN site, cropped it, and then used it without noticing the cross hairs. The same sort of thing happened on a protest sign in with Osama bin Laden with Sesame Street's Bert.

I think some folks are so invested in the story that they can't admit that what's more likely is Hanlon's Razor- "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity."

He used his free speech to post an image of a judge with crosshairs. He should have limits imposed on that channel of speech.

There are multiple repetitions of the "crosshairs" as part of a repeated logo in the electronic wallpaper the site uses behind a half dozen of the favorite targets of the right wingers.
