The difference between one lie and a million lies

A person of integrity lies once and they are followed by it forever. A person with no integrity lies constantly without consequence. We claim integrity is an important quality for our leaders. Our actions speak a very different truth. It doesn't even need to be an intentional lie. To a Trump supporter, Obama couldn't be trusted because of the "lie of the year", that nobody would have to change their doctor. To some old codger that hated Obama who may have had to go to a different eye doctor, despite keeping every other doctor they were seeing, it was license to disregard everything Obama said or did regardless of veracity. And to denigrate him as lacking integrity. Meanwhile, Trump lies multiple times per day-actually multiple times per speech. To a Trump supporter, it's license to choose to treat anything he says that they agree with as the truth wherever it may be convenient. Despite the obvious prevarications. And to champion Trump as some kind of paragon of virtue. Trump's lies are purposeful and designed to cover his lack of integrity. This kind of dynamic is on display every day lately. We see it in Trump and his supporters on a constant basis. McCabe-Liar. Comey-Liar. Elizabeth Warren-Liar. I could go on, but they are all people (flawed as they may be) who are basically people of integrity. Yet Trump is given license to label any of his antagonists as liars. All of them. We are down the rabbit hole as a nation and if we don't hold Trump accountable we will never come back. We will permanently be enslaved by propaganda, theatrics and the morality of the reality show. Maybe as a nation we deserve it, maybe not, but if we don't take back control, we certainly do.

Who said that telling big lies all the time, even after being caught, causes people to believe the lies must be true because they themselves would be ashamed to tell such lies.
