Sen. Kamala Harris told a crowd Monday that she would push for the federal government to rename Columbus Day Indigenous Peoples Day, a focal point for some progressives who say the holiday should emphasize the history of Native Americans instead of the European conquerer, BuzzFeed Newsreports.

(14,565 posts)Classic case of thinking too much. It is one of the things I am worried about with her. You don't have to respond to everything and you don't have to force your principals on everything.
Americans want a replacement for Donald Trump. If you give them reason to be scared of too much of a shift into the unknown, they'll take that opportunity to be scared. Nobody is calling for a replacement name for Columbus Day, especially with a ridiculous difficult-to-remember name that is the same caliber of a Chuck Schumer slogan.
I like Kamala but I won't be rooting for her in the primaries. I don't trust her instincts at all. We need someone special to defeat an incumbent.

If Sen Harris wants a holiday for indigenous peoples, she has the power as a sitting senator to introduce such a bill.
