Unless we do that, we can do nothing. 2016 taught that.
Let's win, shall we?

(27 posts)I was a kid when he bought the Cowboys, but this quote from the presser at the time has always stuck with me:
We will win; we must win. Winning is the name of the game!
I wish he would have followed through on the sentiment over the years, but I thought it was apt for 2020. Winning the Presidency for the Democratic Party has never been so important!

(3,284 posts)face reality and vote to defeat the conservative agenda across the board Americas problems will continue to grow. 2020 may be our best chance to achieve this goal and if we don't it could be our last chance for a very long time.

(14,565 posts)A Democrat would be in great situational shape to win the presidency in 2024, no matter what happens in 2020. We'll either be defending an incumbent or the public would undoubtedly be worn out after 8 years of Donald Trump and divisive Republicans.
The Silent Generation was my parents' generation. It is the most heavily pro-red voting block, due to generational imprinting via coming of voting age under an unpopular Democrat in Truman or popular Republican in Eisenhower. Lots of great Democrats in that generation but bottom line we do gain appreciably every 2-4 years as that generation becomes less of a factor. Trump has lost his winning electoral edge due to mortality alone.
Among younger voters, this is now 5+ years in which the most recent GOP presidents have owned approval ratings of 40% or slightly either side of that. It should be impossible but that's where Bush 43 was for 3+ years post-Katrina, and now Trump since very early in his term. Most of the young voters who newly registered during those years will be politically imprinted as blue leaning for the remainder of their lives. The net gain is enormous and as they get older they will vote more dependably.
That is the type of thing I post on sports sites and the right wingers go nuts. They refuse to believe generational imprinting exists. Fox News doesn't say anything about it. They are convinced everyone will eventually become absorbed and scream empty rants at liberals, just like themselves and everyone they know.
Granted, Trump has already done decades worth of irretrievable damage to the court system, etc. and it's scary to think of more swings under his control.
Winning in 2020 is light years more significant than any issue squabbling. We have to get it right. Win and it's 5% on the margins. Lose and 95% of meaningful decisions trend against us.

(31,261 posts)Congressional and even state legislative districts get drawn. We can't keep counting on going to Court to stop republican excesses when all we need to do is vote logically and in force. Even with republican cheating, when we vote with our eyes on a change, we win big.
