'It was insensitive': Burberry apologises for 'noose' hoodie after model complains

Associated Press

The chief executive and chief creative officer of luxury fashion brand Burberry have apologised for putting a hoodie with strings tied in the shape of a noose on its London Fashion Week runway.

The knotted strings surfaced after Sunday’s show when a model complained both before the show and on Instagram, saying the noose not only evoked lynchings but also suicide.

Marco Gobbetti, the chief executive of the FTSE company, said in a statement on Tuesday that Burberry was “deeply sorry for the distress” the top had caused and had removed it from the autumn-winter collection, along with all images featuring the look.

Riccardo Tisci, Burberry’s creative director, also apologised, saying “while the design was inspired by a nautical theme, I realize that it was insensitive”.

Looks like she found that outfit in a dumpster behind the Good Will building.

Have they been taking too much "executive time" like Trump when they should be designing?

This is certainly ugly, and looks like it is meant to imply something.

However, a common knot used in all sorts of applications. I use a very similar knot on my boat for many things. Usually with not so many coils but that is because once you put four in it there really is no need for any more. It is easy to tie, quick, and comes apart quickly and easily ... which is really the most important thing in a knot when on a boat. Very seldom is it left as shown, usually "cinched" up against something.

You have lines/sheets for all sorts of stuff ... then you have rope. A heaving knot looks just like this without the loop and is generally kept tied on the end of a rope, standard to have a rope with this knot on it close by, or to tie on the ends of a sheet just because they look nice when hanging on the rigging.

My standard knot to tie braided line while fishing is pretty much the same knot, usually with a knot tied in the end line so it does not pull through the coils when pulled tight, slippery stuff that SpiderWire is.

It is certainly a bad optic to place around someone's neck, but not something anyone would pay any attention to if you were wandering around a marina with it on a rope tossed across your shoulder.
