Blizzard conditions possible Saturday in Omaha metro as a major winter storm heads this way

By Nancy Gaarder / World-Herald staff writer 6 hrs ago

Another winter storm is poised to hammer the region — forecasters already are warning people to plan for potential blizzard conditions this weekend — but until then, a brief respite has arrived.

On Thursday, relatively mild weather will give people a chance to get ready, whether that means stocking up, redistributing snow piles or revisiting plans for late Saturday.

The storm will bring a range of potential problems, according to the National Weather Service and AccuWeather Inc., from dangerous travel to power outages.

“We’re looking at a pretty major storm,” said Van DeWald, meteorologist with the weather service. Recent snows, while bountiful, haven’t posed as much of a threat as this system will, he said.

It looks like Michigan is going to be in the 40's with rain, this weekend. So very weird. Siwsan Feb 2019 #3

And maybe snow that night.

We haven't had a winter like this in Missouri for a number of years. We rushed back from Advocacy Day at Jeff City on Tuesday. (We were there for Moms Demand Action.) We made it home at 5:45 and our advisory started at 6. By 6:45 the roads were slick.

It's been a weather roller coaster, this Winter. We've had far less snow but far more freezing precipitation than what I can ever remember. I'm pretty sure the schools have been closer for more days than even during the record cold and snow depth Winters of 2014-2015. I definitely never remember schools in this part of the state being closed for a solid week, like they were, this year.
