A bishop in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) was removed from his post after he was arrested during a human trafficking sting in Lehi, Utah.
David N. Moss, 51, is accused of contacting online women he believed to be prostitutes and claiming he could manage them. Moss, a former police vice squad lieutenant, was arrested on Tuesday for exploiting a prostitute, patronizing a prostitute, two counts of lewdness and sexual battery.
The Utah County Sheriffs Office said that Moss contacted two undercover detectives he believed to be prostitutes on February 14. Moss, under the name Pilot, contacted one woman and arranged to pay $150 for services such as kissing, touching and pleasure that Moss was looking for, a police affidavit cited by Deseret News said.
Moss also told the undercover detectives that he could manage them but not as a pimp. The suspect reportedly claimed he could protect them, help them avoid police and said he would take care of booking. Moss alleged he had run other women in the past. The two undercover detectives and Moss arranged a meeting, where they discussed avoiding police.
Moss reportedly grabbed the hand of one of the detectives and forcibly put it on his genitals over his pants, the Utah County Sheriffs Office said in a statement. He also unzipped his pants and exposed his genitals to the two detectives.
The female (undercover) detectives immediately became concerned and retreated to the bathroom, the police affidavit said. One of the decoys stated she locked the door, which is something she had never done in previous undercover operations.
When he left the meeting location, Moss was stopped by deputies from the Utah County Sheriffs Special Victims Task Force. Officers found a handgun in Mosss pocket.
He was released on Valentines Day but arrested at his home in Lehi on Tuesday. Moss admitted to authorities most of the information he spoke about with the undercover detectives but denied having managed girls in the past. Following his arrest, Moss was removed from his position within the LDS.
The behavior alleged in this incident is completely unacceptable and unbecoming of any member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and especially of someone serving in a position of local leadership, spokesman Eric Hawkins said in a statement to the Deseret News. Upon learning of this situation, local leaders took immediate steps to relieve him of his role and to identify his replacement.
West Valley City also confirmed on Wednesday that Moss resigned from his position as deputy director of the Community Preservation Department. Jail records show Moss was released on Wednesday.

I lived in Utah for about six years (about 15 years ago). All I heard from the people I still know there during the GE was laughter about the whole grabbing thing.

(6,709 posts)The 21% of Utahns who voted for Evan McMullin were likely non-Mormons.

(3,335 posts)of very large family gatherings over the years and we had one such gathering about a month before Trumps election. During the party cleanup, a discussion emerged about the coming election. Mind you this was a few months after the Never Trumpers which was started by Mormons in Salt Lake City. So the conversation was going on about Trump during the cleanup, and not being able to remain silent anymore (after all we were family) I asked them what happened to the Never Trump Movement.
Everyone immediately started talking about there was no way they were going to vote for Hillary, and then someone said, "She is such a liar." I thought I was going to choke. Now mind you, I am the Political Junkie of the entire family, including theirs because none of them have time to read a newspaper nor do they watch the news on a regular basis. I have been reading the newspaper every day since I learned to read in elementary school because it was required of us. I went to a private school, and everyday for homework we were supposed to look up one local news story, one national news story, and one world news story and be prepared to discuss it when called upon. So every since, I have always subscribed to a newspaper. Now the teacher couldn't call on everyone, and you didn't know when she would call on you, so you always had to be prepared to discuss one. When I had my own kids, I made them do the same because I wanted them to be informed about the world they live in.
So they all continued chiming in and attacking me for saying that Trump lies about everything. They then began attacking the Obamas, and continued with the attack on the Clintons, and I decided it was time to go. Later I learned that they had continued the attack on Facebook that evening, and predominately attacking me, for attacking Trump. They also continued attacking the Obamas on line, particularly Michelle's looks, and the Clinton's infidelity. Since then, I never talk politics with any of them at gatherings, because that is my son's family and his in-laws and I never want to cause him any problems with his inlaws. But they definitely exposed what HUGE hypocrits they were.

(5,803 posts)"I never thought he would win". Bullshit bullshit, protest vote, bullshit.
And yet he still spouts ridiculous crap about immigrants, civil rights and social justice. He still buys into stupid conspiracy theories.
I don't even know what to think about it all.

(13,871 posts)The website Tracking Trump https://morningconsult.com/tracking-trump shows his approval/disapproval at 58/31 in January 2017, but it has registered a 33 point drop since then and sits at -6 (45-51) as of January 2019.

Curious thing about this excerpt, so I clicked through to the story on MSN: No mention at all of Mr. Moss's family. Usually, there's a little more biographical information such as family status. Odd, that.

(34,661 posts)well, that was a certain Rethug Vote. In my old neighborhood, the Sunday before the Election Day,all members well Counseled as to who they were to vote for. In my so called Ward, copies of said Counsels were to be taken with them to the polling stations. But,do not let any Gentile see it.
