Supt. Eddie Johnson from Chicago talking about Smollett is amazing.

His speech is spot on. Starts out by saying that he wished that victims of gun violence had as much exposure. Gave a brief history of Chicago's racial tension, and then smoothly went in and expressed his disappointment that a black man would exploit the racial issues to advance his career.

He is also saying that he is concerned that Hate crimes will now be viewed with skepticism because of Smollett.

Well rounded report.

Don't know if that's what the two Nigerian gentlemen said, or if the info came from elsewhere. But, yeah, he has said it twice.

The guy who came after him didn't start out too well. Cdr. Edward Wodnicki. Took him a few minutes to finally hit a professional pace.

I particularly liked when he called it "a publicity stunt", because that's exactly what it was.

His life experience in Chicago gives him the power to speak from the heart and be heard.

Eddie Johnson was the right pick for Superintendent. Years of experience on the force, a good balance between interests of the police and interests of the community. He's not a grandstander for either "side" (and we do have sides here, when it comes to the police and the community). He's just straight up no nonsense. Pretty much.

That a black man would use a noose to try to get a pay raise
(Police say his accomplices said the death letter he sent to himself and attack were an attempt at a pay raise )

The concern here is real even if some who will never have to be worried about being a victim of a hate crime and their attack not being believed don’t think so.

Although he expressed his own reaction at the conference , it was clear to me that it was not an influence on the case as it evolved
