PORTLAND, Ore. After texts messages surfaced last week between a Portland Police Bureau lieutenant and the leader of the Patriot Prayer group, many people are wondering why the officer seemed inclined to help Tusitala "Tiny" Toese, a member of the group, avoid arrest after learning he had a warrant.
That was in 2017. Now, a judge has issued another bench warrant for Toese's arrest after he violated the terms of his probation. The warrant was filed on Feb. 11, 2019, but Toese has still not been arrested ...
According to the Willamette Week, Toese was arrested again on June 8 after he reportedly hit a man in the face.
According to the warrant, Toese has violated the terms of his Feb. 13, 2018 plea agreement by not checking in with his probation officer, failing to appear in court, and not performing any community service.

Jason Van Dyke will not be allowed to practice law for three months starting in March and will undergo nine months of probation as part of a suspension he agreed to this week, according to a document obtained by the Denton Record-Chronicle.
Van Dyke, the Denton lawyer who once represented the Proud Boys, which some have labeled a white nationalist group, was scheduled for a disciplinary hearing on Friday. However, that hearing will not need to happen, a Texas State Bar spokeswoman said, because Van Dyke agreed to his sanction ahead of the hearing.
Starting in March, Van Dyke will have to step away from practicing law for three months during a period of active suspension. The remaining nine months of the suspension will be probated, meaning he can practice law under the terms of the agreement ...
Van Dykes suspension comes following a March 2018 threat of violence Van Dyke made toward Thomas Retzlaff ...

(82,849 posts)The police union is very upset that the buddy-buddy texts between one of its own and Toese have been used to paint the lieutenant in an unflattering light. They're really upset that the texts were characterized by Mayor Wheeler as disturbing and worthy of further inquiry into the nature of the relationship between Portland's cops and the Patriot Prayer whiners. If I were Wheeler, I'd turn this over to new City Commissioner Joanne Hardesty and let the police union deal with her on this subject.

There are at least 1,020 hate groups now active in the U.S., the Southern Poverty Law Center announced on Wednesday. The civil-rights group, which has tracked extremist activity since the 1980s, says its documented a 30 percent increase in hate-group activity over the last four years ...
... white extremists engaged directly in promoting nativism and myths about racial superiority make up the bulk of activity ... SPLC researchers documented 112 active neo-Nazi groups, 148 white nationalist groups, and 63 racist skinhead groups, in addition to 36 neo-Confederate organizations. Though some white supremacists have become disillusioned with Trump over his unrealized border wall, the SPLC argues that the presidents vitriolic anti-immigrant rhetoric and soft-pedaling of white supremacist violence have emboldened hate groups ...
... members of the far-right have been responsible for an escalating number of high-profile violent incidents over the last several years. Its also true that Trump, and some of his surrogates in the conservative press, have helped mainstream certain white nationalist myths. Both Trump and Foxs Tucker Carlson briefly became fixated on the alleged persecution of white South African farmers, though theres no evidence of a white genocide unfolding in South Africa or anywhere else, and Trump frequently amplifies myths about the disproportionate criminality of immigrants. Since Trump took office, white nationalists have beaten left-wing activists and murdered one protester; one of his supporters, Cesar Sayoc, is on trial for a failed domestic bombing campaign. In November, authorities arrested a white nationalist in Washington, D.C., on firearms charges; the man, Jeffrey Clark, owned body armor and hollow-point ammunition and had called Sayocs campaign a dry run on a social media account.
... Hours after the SPLC released its report, Seamus Hughes of George Washington Universitys Program on Extremism broke the news that a lieutenant in the U.S. Coast Guard will go on trial for domestic terrorism charges. The lieutenant, Christopher Hasson, identified as a white supremacist, possessed around 1,000 rounds of ammunition, and created a hit list of liberal politicians and media figures ranging from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to MSNBCs Chris Hayes ...

(7,541 posts)sounds like a LEO engaging in a conspiracy to help a fugitive avoid arrest on a lawful warrant. IIRC area LEOs have priors for this sort of bullsh*t.
