so he has enough pack money to retire early and support AOC to win the remainder of his senate seat so that she follows Obama path to the white house.

(11,738 posts)She has had some very good moments and some not so good. She is fine where she is and seems likely to learn how things are done, but at the same time learn to create partnerships to accomplish things.
She is not the savior of anything. She is a new passionate and popular representative who will hopefully have a good run representing the people of her district and then maybe move on to more powerful positions.

(11,738 posts)She is fine where she is for now. If she is as good as people keep saying, then she will become the Senator for New York and maybe even the President.
I have no problem with that path at all. I do have a problem with people anointing anyone after only a month or two in Congress.

(64,933 posts)He was elected to a national office when he was in his early 40s. Give her time to develop and build coalitions. She may well be a very impressive politician, but it takes time.
For that matter, Bill Clinton was governor of Arkansas for 12 years before becoming president at the age of 46.

(3,635 posts)before becoming US senator she was the San Francisco DA and then California AG, which are very high profile posts that carry alot of responsibility.
but not in national politics. I mean if you can name me a President who's primary experience was DA or AG, I'm all ears.

Obama and KH similarly have two years of US Senatorial experience. The difference is KH has a much stronger resume prior to that.

(11,802 posts)and I'm not saying youre wrong, I'm still waiting to be informed of a President who's primary experience was DA or AG. Not trying to be insulting nor am I saying AOC is ready to be President either. But the rest of the country, or shit, just the 7 0r 8 states I live and work in ain't gonna see that as de facto anything. That's the reality in MI, OH, KY, IL, WI, PA, IN, and MO. Those are at least three states we lost the last election in.
And while I agree Obama was inexperienced as far as what we all collectively judge, myself included, he had a once in a generation motivational speaking style that KH doesn't possess. If she had, this forum would have been lit up with her praise after her prebuttal to the state of the union. Instead it was all Abrams and Sanders. Crickets for Harris. I know. I posted all three. I got literally one response for Harris.

(14,249 posts)and dismiss their time in Washington as just being part of a swamp. But then they'll turn around and trash certain others for NOT being in Washington long enough and dismiss their local and statewide experience as too small time to be taken seriously.
There's a reason we've elected many more state executives than federal legislators as presidents in the past century...

(3,635 posts)which is a blue but ideologically center-left state that Gov Cuomo (as well as AG Tish James) just won in a landslide despite aggressive challenges from the left.
AOC's appeal is limited strictly to progressives, whereas Obama was a rockstar w/wide appeal.

(25,861 posts)I don't live in New York so any opinion I might have about her electability to the Senate is meaningless.
But it's clear to the most obvious casual observer that she's incredibly sharp and has an instinctive understanding of a lot of things.
I sincerely hope I get to vote for her for President at some point down the road.
Keep in mind she's some nine years away from being old enough to run. That's a long nine years.
