Failure to abide by this in the first place is grounds for a bad review.

My husband blasts NPR in the mornings and it gets on my nerves. But, I'm not a morning person and ANYTHING would get on my nerves. I put up with it because he's my husband and I love him and it makes him happy.
If I were paying someone to do a job for me, I certainly wouldn't put up with it.

(7,398 posts)anyone that comes into your home and has a radio blasting, whatever the content, is rude and presumptuous. Just ask him/her to turn the radio off. It's your house.
Then again I don't know your particular situation or the type of work being done. It is usually not a great idea to get rid of someone in the middle of a job. Whoever you get as a replacement You end up paying two people who might not even agree on the way the work should be done.

(36,470 posts)Tell him to turn it down. Or turn it off. It's your house. Also, if he works for a company I'd let them know & tell them that what their employees listen to reflects back on them. If it's his business, I'd never hire him again.

I don't see the issue. You're not paying him to listen to the radio. He's a plumber. It's your house. He can work without it. Just tell him it's bothering you and ask him to turn it down or off. If he refuses, toss him out and find another plumber.
Simple.

(12,265 posts)He had Rush on and I went back and told him it was distracting please turn it off. He threw a fit, said I was a nutty lib, I said get out of my house. I called his boss and told him why I threw him out. They sent a new guy and he was fabulous.

(12,265 posts)I live in Oklahoma so I have had this happen a few times. That was the only time they refused and took me on, that was his mistake. I put a horrible review out there for that company. The owner called me numerous times, told me he had fired that guy and had a new company policy about radios at job sites. After that I took down my review.
I don't mind if they have music on, that doesn't bother me, but talk radio is not appropriate when you are working with the public, you are assuming everyone thinks like you that is just arrogant.

(13,776 posts)If he is, Id suggest leaving a review saying that the work was good but that he plays loud right-wing radio while hes working. He has a right to believe what he believes but its simply rude to make noise at someone elses house. People who want to hear that crap can knowingly invite it into their homes and those who dont can find someone else.

(34,136 posts)When we were building our house the finish carpenter had Limbaugh on. I told him to turn it off while the contractor was there. He did, but maybe only because he had no choice with his boss standing right there.
The person was the most incompetent worker on our job site. He nailed the trim on with the wrong size nails and hit the plumbing TWICE - causing a major leak which ruined the just finished wood floors in the master bedroom. He also managed to nail one of the windows while putting the trim on it so the window had to be replaced. He personally delayed the finished of our house by three months.
Either he was that incompetent on purpose or he was just fucking stupid. Either way, no one playing right wing radio will be allowed to work in my house in the future.
Oh, yeah - after all those mistakes from using the wrong hardware, his next job was in the nail and screw area of Lowe's advising people on which ones to buy.

(14,857 posts)It doesn't surprise me at all that he brings his own radio to job sites. They watch/listen to it in the first place because it makes them feel good, and they come to depend upon it to make them feel good. I don't have cable and when my dad comes visit I swear he has withdrawals from Fox News. I provide him with a radio so he can listen to Limbaugh outside or in the garage, where we don't have to hear it. If I didn't, he'd be twitchy and irritable and just impossible to be around. I've seen it happen many times. He's much more calm and relaxed after he gets his fix of RW propaganda.

(959 posts)just speech, no radio. But I'd wait. Wait until the job is done to your satisfaction. Wait until you have handed over the payment. But before his dumb ass hits the door, this.."BTW, I did not appreciate having the stupidity of Limbaugh forced on me like this. I will never hire you again, and I intend to tell everyone I know not to hire you, because you have shown your utter contempt for me as a customer. Have a nice day."

(25,861 posts)I've never had a repair person play his own radio, and almost no matter what station the radio might be tuned to, it's incredibly rude and arrogant to expect the homeowner to want to listen to the same thing.
If I have NPR on when workers come to my place, I turn it off, because I think it's equally rude of me to force them to listen to what I like. The only exception I make is if I'm playing a CD of instrumental music.

(90,708 posts)...but he is in your house. If he's a smart workman he'll simply say, "Oh, okay," and let it go -- and you say, "Thanks" and let it go.

(90,708 posts)The guy's a workman doing a job the householder cannot do. Mutual respect goes a long, long way toward making the country a better place.
MineralMan
(146,317 posts)The thing is, when you work on someone else's property, you have to show some respect to your customer. You have a job to do, for which you're being paid. That payment does not grant you the opportunity to interfere with the goings on in that property.
It's important to be polite to such workers, but the householder need not put up with foul language, loud music, or other interference with activities. If such things occur, a polite request to stop the behavior should put an end to it. If it does not, a phone call to the company that sent the workers, with a similar request should solve the problem.
The service being paid for is whatever work is being done. The person paying should expect to be treated as respectfully as possible by the workers who are being paid for the work. The property does not change hands during that work.
In the end, the person paying is the person in charge.
Most service businesses that work in people's homes know this and train their employees to show respect for the customer and for the customer's property. Companies that do not do that soon receive bad reviews online and find themselves with less business.
Whenever you hire people to work on your property, you are simply exchanging money for that work. Nothing else is part of the bargain. I've worked in people's homes, and I've had workers work in mine. It's very simple. Both sides must respect the other's position. That's why plumbers wear booties over their shoes and clean up after they're done. That's why the roofers working on your roof don't spew obscenities at the top of their lungs. If they do, then, they're behaving poorly and should be informed of that.
In every case, the customer should try, politely, to get the workers to stop behaving badly. If that doesn't work, contacting the company that sent them is the next step. If that doesn't work, throw them out and find a different company to do your work for you.
