Pompeo impotent on Saudi extraditions

The State Department has responded to demands by Senator Ron Wyden in regards to the Saudi practice of spiriting accused criminals out of the country to avoid prosecution. Most of these accused criminals are here on student visas. The Saudis are not passive spectators. They are posting bond, issuing new passports, and flying these people out of the US on private planes.

A teenager in my neighborhood was killed by one of these students who vanished after Saudi agents cut off his ankle bracelet and flew him home. The Saudi government admitted that he was back in Saudi Arabia a year later.

The State Department has said that without an extradition treaty there is nothing to be done.

That is nonsense.

The State Department controls student visas.

If the Saudi government does not return the accused felons (including homicide and rape cases), all student visas should be suspended, and current students should be deported immediately.

Saudi Assets should be frozen pending outcomes of civil cases.

Are we so addicted to Saudi oil and weapons contracts that we can continue to ignore these abuses?
