North Korean Official: Kim Jong Un 'May Have Lost the Will' to Negotiate With Trump

by Tommy Christopher | Feb 28th, 2019, 2:00 pm

Even as the Trump administration tries to put a happy face on the aborted summit with Kim Jong Un, North Korean officials are contradicting Trump’s version of events, and casting doubt on the future of the negotiations.

-snip-

But in a rare press conference in Hanoi following the summit, North Korean officials contradicted Trump, and cast doubt on the productivity of current and future talks.

Foreign Minister Ri Yong-Ho told reporters “What we proposed was not the removal of all sanctions, but the partial removal,” and that they “offered a realistic proposal” that would be a “trust-building measure.”

-snip-

North Korean Vice Foreign Minister Choe Son-Hui spoke to reporters after Ri, and said that the U.S. “not accepting our proposal is missing an opportunity that comes once in a thousand years.”

She also said that “I have a feeling that Chairman Kim may have lost the will” to negotiate with Trump.

Once again, he holds 'one-on-one' meetings with an untrustworthy foreigner and now we have to accept Kim's version of events.

Trump refuses to believe that we don't trust him, since he gets his adoration from his syncophants.

that the press is excluded because he doesn't trust them.

In some cases, you want one on one meetings. Imagine you're trying to work out some sort of political compromise, and everything you say is immediately discussed, dissected, criticized in the media.

For example, next time there's a union strike and contract negotations, lets by all means make sure that people that hate the union is in the room to report every bargaining position--even better if the other side isn't around.

...KJU would be pleased about. Makes him sound weak, as opposed to something like "No longer willing to." Problem with translation/nuance? Will there be a dead journalist as a result of this statement?

Isn't that the way these things normally work? Let the diplomats do the hard work so the heads of state can go in and collect all the glory?
