He had developed an increasingly troublesome cough in the last few weeks. And he’s made more mistakes. I don’t know, seems off to me.

He’s one of those guys who makes me nuts but is kind of endearing too.

...with no explanation.

I have heard him coughing when he is off camera, for months now. He IS a type 1 diabetic with a history of malaria recurrences and maybe other problems too. Malaria from his time in the Peace Corps.

Lordy he loves his work and his immersion in politics and we can see that passion and commitment, whatever his shortcomings may be.

I wish him well. I hope he comes back as a consultant or with a co-anchor. He would hate so much to miss this historic shit show going down.

Usually a substitute host says something like "I'm Darth Vader filling in for vacationing Chris Matthews, or "Chris is under the weather but due back Monday".

Why are we stuck with Kornacki?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Matthews#Personal_life

Matthews has been married since 1980 to Kathleen Matthews, who anchored News 7 on WJLA-TV, the ABC affiliate in Washington, D.C., before accepting a position as an executive vice president with Marriott International. The couple have three children: Michael, Thomas, and Caroline. His brother Jim Matthews, a Republican, is a former county commissioner in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.

In 2002, Matthews was hospitalized with malaria, which he evidently contracted on one of his visits that year to Africa. He has also had other health problems, including diabetes (which he acknowledged having on the Hardball broadcast of December 7, 2009) and pneumonia.

Matthews is a lifelongDallas Cowboys fan, which he claims as "part of his soul".

Matthews was the commencement speaker at Ohio State University on May 4, 2014.

Hardball with Chris Matthews is one of my favorite shows on MSNBC. His show’s content is interesting, and he provides great analysis. I particularly like his coverage of elections and polls.

I hope not, for his sake. I cannot tolerate Kornwacky for one thin minute. Tweety misbehaves sometimes...laughs when he shouldn’t, yells when he shouldn’t and interrupts incessantly...but I respect who he is and what he’s seen. I wish him well.
