according to the NY Times.
Let me guess - the signatures were John Miller, David Dennison and John Barron?

OSLO The protocol for nominating and choosing recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize is one of the worlds most scrutinized and secretive.
A total of 329 candidates 217 individuals and 112 organizations are being considered for this years prize, which will be announced in October. The identities of the candidates are kept secret, and indeed, the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which awards the prizes, is forbidden from divulging any information about its deliberations for 50 years, and even then, only for scholarship purposes and at its discretion.

That's an international crisis in the making - is he that desperate for a peace prize.
Obama sure sent him over the edge.

(269,004 posts)Earlier this month Donald Trump claimed that he was nominated by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abi. Trump claimed the nomination was because of the work opening up dialogue with North Korea. [1]
Trump said Friday that Abe "gave me the most beautiful copy of a letter that he sent to the people who give out a thing called the Nobel Prize. ... He said, 'I have nominated you, respectfully, on behalf of Japan. I am asking them to give you the Nobel Peace Prize.'"
Right after, Trump announced he was awarded the nomination from Shinzo Abe, reporters attempted to verify that by asking him. He refused to either confirm nor deny that he had.[2] Thats a strange thing to say isnt it?
So, fast forward to today. Now the Nobel Prize Committee states that Donald Trumps nomination was a forgery. Not only that but there was another attempted forgery attempt last year. [3]
But a wrinkle in this time-honored process the peace prize was first awarded in 1901 emerged on Tuesday, when the committee announced that it had uncovered what appeared to be a forged nomination of President Trump for the prize. The matter has been referred to the Oslo police for investigation.
Donald Trump has Obama on the brain. He just wants to be as good as Obama.
This is in no way illegal but this guy is the president of the USA and he lowers himself to forging nominations to be considered for a peace prize. Is that really what we want from our president?

(1,997 posts)He, and his ilk (which includes the Russians), would stop at nothing to maintain power. I would not be at all surprised to find out in coming years that they bribed pollsters, or even just the one or two who are compiling the data. We know for a fact that they put a lot of time, money and effort into rigging online polling during the election. How different is this really?
I hate conspiracy theories, but I wonder if our side's proclivity to avoid thinking about conspiracies makes us blind to things that might be happening right under our noses.

There is nothing that this piece of shit Trump won't do or how low he can go....and that is what is so terrifying.
I have always feared that he has the nuclear code and whether he would use it and for nefarious purposes....but many will say that there is no way he would go that far
Really? I believe he would and its terrifying....

(15,383 posts)By submitting it under someone else's name? According to the award's website, there's a list of who can nominate, including:
Members of national assemblies and national governments (cabinet members/ministers) of sovereign states as well as current heads of states
Surely, Trump could have one of his lackeys in government nominate him. Did he try to forge the name of a member of the Norwegian Nobel Committee and forget an umlaut?

(115,706 posts)I am wondering whether the police in Norway have since figured out who did it. From the 2018 article:
Mr. Skjold said the earlier letter was subjected to a thorough and lengthy forensic examination, which the new letter is also likely to undergo.
In a phone interview on Wednesday, Mr. Njolstad of the Nobel committee, said, We verify all nominations, at least the ones with a shadow of doubt.
Mr. Njolstad declined to provide details or copies of the forged nominations, but he said it was fair to assume that the documents purported to have been from a nominator who when contacted said the nominations were not valid.
