BY MICHAEL BURKE - 03/04/19 08:49 AM EST
George Conway, the husband of White House counselor Kellyanne Conway, said Monday that it would "unquestionably be grounds for impeachment" if President Trump ordered former White House economic adviser Gary Cohn to pressure the Department of Justice to block the AT&T-Time Warner merger.

Conway's remark comes after The New Yorker reported that Trump gave that directive to Cohn in the summer of 2017.
Trump is thought to be opposed to the merger because Time Warner owns CNN, a news network Trump regularly derides and refers to as "fake news."
The New Yorker reported that Trump complained during a 2017 Oval Office meeting with then-chief of staff John Kelly and Cohn that no action had been taken on Trump's request to have the merger blocked.

(4,575 posts)She's a slippery one to be sure. She must actually have the goods on Orange in order to keep her job. Her hubby loathes Trump but he is still a conservative hack. The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

(11,989 posts)Only of ones a Republican Senate would be willing to convict on.
But we might be better off running against Trump than Pence in 2020 anyway.
So I say let him serve out his term, and get indicted in January of 2021, when a Dem president won't pardon him and he no longer has the power to even attempt to pardon himself.

(90,347 posts)... approve of.
This keeps people from taking bribes so it's best for the POTUS to error on the side of not taking anything as president unless it's approved by congress.

(8,200 posts)If there ever existed, in the present day jargon, of a zero sum situation it is the present congress. I have listened to the bull crap being spewed by this nincompoop and his protectors long enough. He is repulsive and his protectors are like a pack of evil little imps. Just how long can this be tolerated to allow the outright racists, homophobes, misogynistic and their greedy henchmen be allowed to literally destroy the nation. I hope that I live long enough to see the ship righted and my kids and grandkids future secured but I am not counting on it.
We need a Roosevelt, either one, to come to our aid. People who actually have the balls to do something except wring their panties. As FDR said when he was challenged by the filthy Republicans then and who remained the same, "I welcome the hatred." It wasn't lets all sit down and learn how to play nicely. He knew with whom he was dealing; The damnable incarnation of the devil himself. When one of the damn Republicans appear on TV anymore I just change the channel to protect what is left of my precarious sanity. Plus I may be tempted to throw my walker at it.
I really believe that if I were in better shape I would go back to Colorado and build me a one room cabin in the middle of the most remote place I could purchase and live my last days in relative peace.

(32,086 posts)One of the rare times he did something that is for the good of the country, and it was illegal. The merger would have been terrible for this country, so it's good that it was stopped. I just wish it had been done according to the law.

(8,917 posts)I was against the merger for monopolistic reasons, so I agreed with the merger not going through.
But I didn't expect this to happen because it affected Dolt45 at a personal level.
Nothing like screwing up the correct decision with an illegal act!
P.S. Just noticed your name!

(34,402 posts)Good Cop/Bad Cop routine to ensure that at least one of them will be employable once this clusterfuck mercifully comes to an end. Kellyanne's reputation is shot, and both of them know it, so it's up to ol' George to provide cover and future income. Either that, or he accepts that he's married to a ghastly, pathological liar and has decided to live with it. Either way, yeesh. What a way to live.

(14,317 posts)AT&T is already leveraging HBO to force Dish Network customers to migrate to DirecTV, which they also own, by charging Dish exorbitant rates. Streaming is not an option for me, so I will have to switch.
