a demonstrated willingness to pay what might as well be blackmail should be an obvious disqualifier for even having access to state secrets, never mind having a finger on the nuclear button.

his motives don't much matter. the mere fact that he's willing to pay a lot of money to keep a personal secret is all you need to know he should be nowhere near the white house.

...he'd toss 'em in the slammer without a second thought.

He "loves" them only as ego extensions.

He is incapable of even imagining them as human beings distinct from his own ego.

(Okay, well, maybe I can't fault him too hard on that last one. I have a hard time seeing them as human beings, too... but at least I TRY.)

He paid hush money by personal check to an adult film actress and wanted to keep it secret from his family. The fact that it also kept the information away from the American people to Trump's personal benefit was just a secondary consideration in Sen. Rounds' mind.

Honestly, how do these people live with themselves?
