I wonder who had both the access and willingness to leak?
A White House source has reportedly leaked documents related to Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trumps security clearances to House Democratsafter the Trump administration refused to hand over the paperwork. Axios reports the House Oversight Committee has obtained documents that supposedly shed light on how both Kushner and Trump were ultimately granted their security clearances. Two staffers from the committee are quoted as saying the documents are part of the puzzle that we would be asking for from the White House, so we appreciate having this upfront. This week, the White House rejected the committees request for documents on the process for granting security clearances to staffersalthough its now reported the committee has had the documents since early February. They are said to detail who was involved in the final clearance decisions, and explain why Kushners clearance was changed to interim in September 2017.

Not everyone would have access and if they aren't authentic the committee will be able to tell and there will be trouble for the leaker

You know: Ooops.

(14,838 posts)And lying to congress is a felony. Lying to the media is just breathing to the gop.
The documents are still being requested. They haven't relied on them to any extent other than for context. But if someone altered or fabricated them and then sent them to congress, they would be guilty of lying to congress (it doesn't have to be under oath).

(35,359 posts)Lying to a staffer that works for a congressperson, probably not so much.
There's a difference between the power and authority of a committee and the power and authority of individuals on the committee.

(14,838 posts)providing a false document to a congressional committee is the same as lying to the committee. Giving a document to a staffer on a committee is the same as giving it to the committee.

(14,838 posts)And muehler certainly has the originals. All the committee would need to do is send a copy to muehler's office and ask if it's original.
