Perhaps the most corrupt administration in U.S. history, riddled with nepotism and teeming with swamp creatures.
Ive got the perfect slogan for President Trumps reelection campaign: Promises Made, Promises Not Kept, But Im Betting My Voters Are Too Stupid to Notice.
<snip>
* Trump promised to reverse trade policies that he said allowed the rest of the world to play Americans for suckers. -- Result: The Commerce Department announced Wednesday that the overall U.S. trade deficit in goods last year soared to an all-time high of $891?billion.
* Trump promised on Twitter that there is no longer a Nuclear Threat from North Korea. -- Result: Following months of little or no progress, Director of National Intelligence Daniel Coats told Congress in January that North Korea is unlikely to completely give up its nuclear weapons.
* Trump promised to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act -- Result: Obamacare remains the law of the land.
* Trump promised to spend up to $1.5?trillion on refurbishing the nations infrastructure, building new airports, bridges, tunnels, roads and other gleaming monuments to American greatness. -- Result: Infrastructure Week has become a running joke.
* Trump promised to drain the swamp of corruption in Washington. -- Result: Perhaps the most corrupt administration in U.S. history, riddled with nepotism and teeming with swamp creatures.
I could go on. Trump did fulfill some promises he made to far-right ideologues (appointing archconservative judges) and the ultra-rich friends he sups with at Mar-a-Lago (cutting taxes for the wealthy). Overall, though, his administration has been a great big failure. - WaPo
Not so much about MAGA. A lot about enriching himself and his swamp dwellers.

(7,947 posts)No administration, including Nixon's or Warren G. Harding, approaches the level of corruption here. Not a week goes by without an ethical issue coming up which would be considered historically heinous previously.

(51,632 posts)They have been trained to believe BS. When I watched a juror from Manafort's VA trial on Lawrence O'Donnell last night I cringed. She voted for the moron and said she would do it again since he has "done so much good for the country".
If Warren isn't elected POTUS she would be a great cabinet pick to end corruption and tax the rich proportionately.

(535 posts)Yes, his is the most corrupt maladministration in our history but his cult will forgive him anything and everything and here's why. He can enrich himself all he wants in their eyes because he provides them with something priceless. They have license to openly hate, to proudly wear their bigotry in public.

(18,770 posts)Hands down. And Michael Beschloss agrees:
This historian spent 10 years researching wartime presidents. Trump scares him the most.
Michael Beschloss says President Donald Trump is in a category of his own among Americas commanders in chief.
All wartime presidents have preserved our democracy largely through self-restraint, and I dont see any of that in President Trump.
Thats historian Michael Beschlosss stunning observation. For his new book Presidents of War, he spent a decade looking at Americas wartime commanders in chief how they handled the decision to send US troops into combat, how they navigated the politics surrounding war, and how the war changed them personally.
<snip>
What he told me was sobering. He said that every single one of Americas wartime presidents abused his power. If you are worried about a president with authoritarian tendencies grabbing too much power, you look at a president in wartime, Beschloss told me. People will accept a lot of violations of their civil liberties in wartime.
He also said that no president in American history scares him more than Donald Trump does. Hes in a category of his own, Beschloss told me during our interview, because Trump has shown no willingness to learn from history and little empathy two key ingredients that make great wartime presidents who dont eradicate most democratic norms.
