Well, Dick Pound's jihad against Armstrong succeeded.

Pound was the head of World Anti-Doping Assocition (WADA). He has also been involved in testing in the Olympics and has a hand somewhere in USADA.

He has been after Armstrong for decades and he was never going to quit or give up pushing other people to keep trying. Pound makes Inspector Javert look like a slacker.

I believe that this time there must be some evidence Armstrong can't refute or he would not stop. By giving up, he keeps it from becoming a complete spectacle.

Pound is an asshole. That doesn't mean Armstrong didn't do anything illegal, but Pound would hunt him until the end of time. Pound is a singularly unlikeable man. He took Armstrong's case personally.

I have always believed Armstrong doped somehow, but I also believe they never had the evidence. He was smart, knew smart scientists on the cutting edge, and was ruthless. I'd like to know how he tested cleanly so many times and so would eleventy billion athletes. If he was clean at those times, how did he manage it?

with just as much evidence. Go to Lance's site and read his statement.

Pound's not involved here. It is another asshole.

Pound was after Armstrong from the get go. He may not be the person in charge now, but he has never missed a chance to hound him. He has pushed those around him to go after Lance too.

Armstrong can say what he wants. He has been defiant about and dimissive of everthing said about him. He has dared WADA and USADA to do anything at every turn. Well, they took him up on it.

When he exhausted his last chance to avoid a hearing, he folded. If it had just been other dirty riders claiming things, who cares? Floyd Landis has as much credibility as Mittens. That would have been, he said, he said. They are supposed to release their evidence in the near future. There is more there than just tattletales.

At high levels, sports can be a cesspool of cheaters. Cycling has been rife with it. Entire teams have been tossed.

I don't like WADA and USADA. They need to overhaul their processes. They keep making their groups cabals of puritans who develop personal grudges. Armstrong is no angel either. He deserves every bit of credit for his work against cancer. That has nothing to do with the judgment about his cycling career.

A pox on all of them.

The birther accusations take the same stand.

Suppose the tea party charged that Obama was not born in America. They say they have witnesses. They say they have proof. But all they want Obama to do is take a lie detector test. Oh, yeah. The lie detector will be programmed by donald trump. He will administer the test and then judge the outcome. Do you think Obama should fall for that trap?

The usada hearings were operating outside of their own guidelines. tygert said it was okay to do so. The rules of the hearing were to be set up by tygert. He was to select the judges. He had the right to overrule anything involved in the hearings. Then he was the final judge of what the hearing would prove.

If usada is correct, then testing is pointless. This is the most tested man in sports. Do you know how the testing program for cycling works? If that kind of testing is used and nothing is found, but the man is guilty anyway, then testing is not valid for anything.

Whether Lance used or not isn't the point. The point is believing in the rabid rantings of one hater with a title and an axe to grind. If you go for one, you have to go with others if you are going to be intellectually honest.
