After seeing a Repuke congressman melting ice in a glass to prove global warming will have no effect on sea level, it's nice to see freshmen congressmen who are smart, sharp and prepared. There's absolutely no showboating for the cameras, just rapid fire questions and follow ups.

Finally got a Dem and got a good one.

Erwin Chemerinsky started the Law School at UCI where she works. (He provided a lot of legal analysis during the OJ trial)

Anyway he started the law school and had a plan. He let everyone in for free, not sure for how long but for the first couple of classes at least. So no tuition, I am sure they had some money to help students with living expenses.

His plan was that there was no way to compete against the big boys for students, but if he got the kids in for free he would get some really smart ones whose families couldn't afford the tier 1 schools.

A couple years in to the experiment I am on a plane and about a dozen of them board, two sit in my row so I start chatting them up about the program and how cool it is they went after the best students with what they had to offer, a vision to be tier 1 as quickly as possible. Turns out the kids were off to some mock trial competion with all of the big boys, Harvard, Yale, Stanford, CAL, etc. I asked how they think they will do, one girl chuckled and said, we are going to get our asses handed to us. But our professors are telling us by the time we are Seniors we will have two of these as experience and will be competitive.

In the last year or two they beat Cal in some competion and are close to a top 20 law school.

Point being, Chermerinsky, Porter, staff, took a new approach to getting a Law School started, probably had the time of thier lives with eager, intelligent kids without the burden of having to deal with the legacy bullshit, and they succeeded.

....yesterday, but C-Span's site was bogged down.

She's going to be a winner in Congress, maybe a Senator to replace Dianne Feinstein some day?

time. With Feinstein likely in her last term, people like Porter will be well positioned to go for her seat once she retires.
