In any kind of sane nation the president repeatedly suggesting his supporters, including police and military, will turn violent if he doesn’t get his way would be the stuff of front page scandal and perhaps cause for removal.

In America, however, Trump mocking Beto’s hand gestures will be bigger news than Trump suggesting maybe his supporters will have to kill liberals.

In case y’all didn’t believe me: CNN’s webpage has a headline about Trump mocking Beto’s hand gestures; nothing about Trump suggesting his police & military supporters turn violent on his behalf.

WASHINGTON—U.S. President Donald Trump has issued what seems to be a warning of armed pushback against his political opponents, telling a right-wing website on Monday that “it would be very bad, very bad” if his supporters in the military, police and a motorcycle group were provoked into getting “tough.”

Trump uttered the remark in an interview with Breitbart News, a right-wing website that supports him. It came, according to Breitbart, as Trump was arguing that “the left” plays politics in a “tougher” and more “vicious” manner than the pro-Trump right even though “the tough people” are on Trump’s side.

“I have the support of the police, the support of the military, the support of the Bikers for Trump — I have the tough people, but they don’t play it tough — until they go to a certain point, and then it would be very bad, very bad,” Trump said.

Trump did not specify who “they” were. Breitbart did not emphasize the quote, which it published in an article headlined “Exclusive — President Donald Trump: Paul Ryan Blocked Subpoenas of Democrats.”

There is no way tRump wont call for his supporters to use violence to defend him before this is all over. We need to use democratic means to unseat him but absolutely be prepared for him to call for civil war in response to an electoral loss. Be ready for it.

The winning side is whichever one has the big weapons.

Depending on the loyalties of the officers, this could go either way.

There will be those among the ranks that would follow him, but I think that is a severe minority. I don't see the Joint Chiefs responding to his call to defend him from the will of the People. I was in the military, the oath we swear is to the Constitution, not to the President. The oath also includes defending against all enemies, foreign AND domestic. Plus, you don't have to obey an unlawful order. Of all the things that keep me up at night, the US Military siding with a third of the population against the other two thirds isn't among them.

Threatening political violence is unacceptable in the U.S. I guess the silver lining is Trump’s violent and divisive language will make it less likely he wins re-election. Presidents use bipartisan language, for the good of the country. But, they also get higher approval ratings by not publicly hating those who are not their diehard supporters.

There are swing voters who do not like seeing children from Central America taken from their families. They probably also do not like the Putin-supported sabotage of our most important alliances, disrespect toward the U.S. military and intelligence officers, Stalinist rants calling a free press “Enemy of the People,” and threats of political violence. This is stuff Conservatives misguidedly feared about the Left.

If he spoke and acted like George W. Bush, John McCain, or Mitt Romney, he would have a better chance of winning re-election. He might be doing great in turnout in the exurbs and some rural areas, but he is also motivating turnout on the Left, even with heavy Right-Wing turnout. This happened when very heavy pro-Trump turnout was not enough to keep the House of Representatives in 2018.

It might not be obvious to his supporters yet. But, after Trump leaves office, he will be a very big embarrassment as a former President. He will probably be seen as the laziest, most ignorant, and worst President in U.S. History.
