So much for the mess created by the RW austerity imperialists. This is a mess.
A horrific day for both the vile MAGAcretin and the British Conservative Party.
They could both do the planet a favor and resign.

We look at austerity measures as cruel and inhumane because of the suffering they cause and how they drive so many people into poverty. The right-wing looks at austerity measures as a great success because it drives more wealth into the pockets of people in the ownership class. They are willing to let billions (yes, billions) suffer for that. It's one of the primary reasons I don't understand why so many people across the globe who are poor and struggling still support the right. Sure, they get to enjoy the benefit of having their racist, hateful ideals normalized but it sure does hurt their own pockets. Seems kinda short-sighted, no?

(82,849 posts)The UK got suckered by the Brexiteers and narrowly passed the referendum to leave the EU. Since that vote, a lot of more information has come to light about who was pushing for severing ties, and just what that all meant. For some people, the prospect of kicking out foreigners and dark-skinned people was an irresistible lure. For others, the notion that the UK would manage its own economic affairs better than the EU was the deciding factor. A lot of other considerations were given very short shrift or not discussed at all (e.g., the border with Ireland). Any number of Brexit-friendly public figures have left government or disappeared since the referendum.
The referendum wasn't a suicide pact, particularly since so much more information is at hand. What would be the harm in holding another referendum on Brexit, this time with a population better educated on the merits pro and con? If the UK confirms the earlier vote, then go ahead. But if the people say, "Waitasecond, here," doesn't it serve everyone's bona fide interests to ask again?
