A drunken driver who killed a 35-year-old motorcyclist in 2017 was ordered to serve two days behind bars and five days under house arrest, officials said.
Alexandria Eslinger, 27, was also placed on probation for a year during her sentencing last week, the Sedgwick County (Kansas) Sheriffs Office said. She was originally sentenced to 12 months in jail, but the judge suspended that order, according to the office. If she violates her probation, a judge will decide whether or not she will serve the original sentence.
Eslinger caused the crash that killed Jesus Navarro-Gonzalez after she turned into a parking lot in the 2000 block of West Street on July 14, 2017.
Court records indicated that Eslinger had a blood-alcohol concentration of .102. The legal limit is under .08.
She pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and driving under the influence, both misdemeanors, in January.

(25,865 posts)I often read of someone being arrested for the 7th or 10th time for DUI.
Oh, and sometimes someone who killed people in a drunk driving accident gets to do the same thing again.
Honestly, I like living in New Mexico but the drunk driving is out of control. I have NEVER lived in a state where people regularly get on the interstate going in the wrong direction and kill people. And this is a state with a relatively low population, only a couple of big cities (really, the only big city is Albuquerque) and it's amazing how often this happens.
So, if you like to drink and drive, this is the state for you.
Me? I'd lock up someone like that for ten years or so.
