WTH, Missouri? Forced gun ownership?

A bill introduced to the Missouri House of Representatives would require every resident between 18 and 34 years old to own at least one AR-15.

Introduced by Bootheel Representative Andrew McDaniel, House Bill 1108 is called the “McDaniel Militia Act.”

The bill defines an “AR-15” as “any semi-automatic rifle that is modeled on the AR-15 rifle design by AramLite, Inc.” It defines a “resident” as “a resident of the state who is 18 years or older and under 35 years old, who is not prohibited by law or court order from possessing a firearm.”

Under the bill, residents could be eligible for a tax credit equal to 75 percent of the cost of the AR-15 they bought.

The article goes on to say that this same yahoo introduced another bill requiring handgun ownership. At this time, neither bill has been put on the calendar.

Of whatever Wingnut ideas happen to pop into their heads. I talked about this today at my game session with the guys and just laughed. None of us which included two Vietnam Era Vets have absolutely no interest in owning any firearms.

The "Esteemed" Representative Andrew McDaniel go fly a kite with his sales plan for AramLite, Inc.

And Andrew McDaniel is just too modest, naming this straight-to-flush-file “bill” after himself.

Good luck, would-be Missouri Militia. BTW, the federal government has DRONES. Your AR-15s might as well be pop-guns.

Anything similar counts. And while we fling the label "AR-15" around with abandon, we've often used it (like the media does) to refer to any AR-15 style weapon from any manufacturer.

But I think he's having fun, he's spoofing.

After all, if the only reason for the 2nd amendment is to ensure a "well regulated militia" (which term at the term didn't mean "government restricted" but simply "well trained and equipped", then you'd damned well better make sure that the militia is equipped (and trained). And since the militia is an informal corps consisting of able-bodied men between certain ages, each person have to have his (her?) own firearm. What better way to ensure uniform equipment and training than make sure everybody has the same general type of lethal weapon?

If that's the way the 2nd amendment should be read, then it cries out for making sure that the militia is equipped and trained. Then again, it flips the meaning of "right" into "obligation".

Or maybe my "he's having fun" interpretation is too clever by half and that's how he really thinks things should be. There's too often a fine line between inane and parody these days.

13. Lawmaker: My Gun Bills Are a Total Scam

Missouri Republican state Representative Andrew McDaniel wants to force every 18–35 year old in his state to own an AR-15 and a handgun. At least, that’s what two bills, quietly filed by McDaniel in the Missouri legislature late last month, would have you believe. The truth, however, is that McDaniel is a cynical dickhead using these mandatory requirements as a scam for media attention.

The proposed laws, as written, are:

HB 1108: The McDaniel Militia Act, which requires every person between 18 and 35 years of age who can legally possess a firearm to own an AR-15 and authorizes a tax credit for a purchase of an AR-15.

HB 1052: the McDaniel Second Amendment Act, which requires every person 21 years of age or older who can legally possess a firearm to own a handgun and authorizes a tax credit for a purchase of a handgun.

An entire state full of adults required by law to own mass-shooters’ weapon of choice sounds crazy, right? But when I reached out to McDaniel, a former deputy sheriff in rural Pemiscot County, MO, to ask about his proposed legislation, he explained that, actually, he’s just using the insane-sounding legislation to get attention for a much more mundane goal, albeit one that’s equally gross which would get any GOP state legislator puppy at least one pat on the head from their local NRA lobbyist.

“I merely planned for media to write about it but would ultimately amend it to take out the mandates and requirements (age and type of gun) and turn it into a gun tax credit bill,” McDaniel told Splinter in an email.
