I dont have words for todays vote, except that as a public school teacher for 40 yrs, I came to work every day with my integrity intact. My paycheck was certainly different from these so-called national leaders, but then I didnt have to sell my soul to keep my job. I made the right choice. When did it become more important for them to be re-elected than to keep us from the abyss?

I've seen it in my family, and I've seen it in my friends. I am sure it is more complex than it often seems, but my observation is those with the most are by far the cheapest of people. Too much money seems to inflict some sort of sickness - there can never be enough. I've seen it in areas near where I live - McMansions in gated communities behind additional gates.
Seems like there is a bit of a sweet spot of just enough - enough to pay the bills, enough to have a place to live - and of course it varies area to area, person to person. But in my 63 years the only thing I've seen when there are big excesses of money is cheapness - and, unhappiness.
Looking at the mess our government is in - our president is (if you believe him) incredibly wealthy - but he wants more. He feeds his guests fast food. He and his party work to further enrich themselves, and leave those with the least with even less.
It all disgusts me. Our family has never had too much - only enough - and we are generous with others, with tips, with our children, with those in need. It is easy - we have no fear of not enough, because we've learned that the more you give, the more you receive, in countless ways.
It is so simple. But, apparently, not simple for those that really could make huge differences...but don't. Because that excess money has rotted their heart, and their soul.

(30,749 posts)I have been in that position many times. It seems like I have come through one crisis or another at times. Then, I get back to just enough. It is fine with me.

(12,160 posts)The misery that comes with the relentless pursuit of MORE is something Ive never wanted (much to my first wifes chagrin!). Im about the same age as you, and Ive got plenty of money after a lifetime of living prudently and generously.
More importantly, Ive got my self-respect. And Ive got peace of mind about my place in the world, and the possibilities for doing my little bit to make it better.

(129,197 posts)It still boggles the mind how the GOP's purported "greatest President" Raygun has now been thrown under the bus so many times that he is completely unrecognizable as they "bury" what's left of him as fast as they can (per the NYT editorial).

(53,410 posts)I lived and worked in California where, as Governor, Reagan turned out the mentally ill into the streets. To this day you can see a lot of the homeless are mentally ill. The only good thing about it is most of them arent violent. Those probably get arrested and are in prison.
His evil is surpassed only by Trump. American gods.
