BOOM! The state of Washington has just passed a bill in their Senate to remove Trump from their ballots in 2020 if he does not release his tax returns.

Way to go Washington!!

Which it will be

There is nothing magical about tax returns. They happen to be the current obsession. But if something like this were allowed to enter case law then nothing would prevent swing states controlled by GOP legislatures to pass absurd restrictions specifically targeted at the Democratic nominee.

and they aren't even required to hold a popular vote. They could have the governor personally pick the electors if they wanted to.

From the Constitution:

Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress: but no Senator or Representative, or Person holding an Office of Trust or Profit under the United States, shall be appointed an Elector.

...to be eligible to be POTUS.......taxes ain't in there.
Art.VI... the "Supremacy Clause" kind of addressees this
