... is familiar to us Mobilians this time of year. But a Cat 1 is not likely to be catastrophic regionally - just trees and power lines down and a lot of rain. The surge could be bad if it hits at high tide. And, as always, it will be bad for some individuals that suffer specific disaster.

BTW - Did you ever eat at Callaghan's Irish Pub while you were here?

Sometimes I would get off in Theodore and make a quick run to Academy Sports for supplies before returning to the ship for another few weeks in the bay

Most of the models have shifted a bit eastward, in the short term at least.

The 'dirty side' of the hurricane is the northeast quadrant. So unless there is a major shift west, NOLA should be OK.

Dr. Jeff Masters says:

Tropical Storm Isaac is pounding Haiti and the Dominican Republic with torrential rains that are causing extremely dangerous flooding and landslides. Isaac's center passed over Haiti's southwest peninsula early this morning, tracking about 50 miles west of the capital of Port-au-Prince. As the center pulled away to the northwest, Isaac's heaviest thunderstorms moved ashore over Hispaniola near sunrise, and are now dumping heavy rains with rainfall rates approaching one inch per hour, according to recent microwave satellite estimates. Barahona on the south coast of the Dominican Republic had received 5.14" of rain as of 8 am EDT this morning, and it is probable that some mountainous areas in Haiti and the Dominican Republic have already received up to 10" of rain from Isaac. These rains will continue though much of the day, and have the potential to cause high loss of life in Hispaniola.
.
Issac will be over our house by Tues/Wed. Having a tropical storm or even Cat 1 sit in the same area for a day causes a LOT of damaging water to accumulate. Many trees weakened by previous storms will topple. I am not looking forward to it.
