General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsDo you think Romney thinks he's gonna win?
He does not run on any positive plans that he has.
He plans to destroy Medicare in a few years.
He runs on a budget plan that would not balance the budget for 40+ years.
He runs to the right and selects (or has selected for him) an extremist joke of a Congresscritter.
He refuses to release tax records when under constant barrage to do so from many angles.
He hides money overseas and registers with his own company as a foreign investor.
He makes birther jokes.
He buys "hardware stuff".
I know he's out of touch, a billion dollars would do that to a guy, but do you think when he plugs in to recharge and reboot at the end of a busy day he honestly thinks "I'm going to be Prez of these humans soon"?
Is Romney just a place holder who will take a place in the "Also Rans" category of history right next to Dole, Mondale, and Kerry? Shit, he's even hurting the down ticket elections virtually guaranteeing no pick ups for the repukes. His surrogates aren't even helping him. The only attack ads he runs are 4 years old and failed for McSame.

(4,243 posts)I think he is sucking up to the Kochs, Adelsons, etc. because he thinks they will help get him into the White House. He doesn't really care what you or I think and to him, there is nothing we can do to stop him if his handlers find a way to fix the election. You and I are just unfortunate roadblocks he has to contend with.

(1,588 posts)I consider it completely unimportant who in the party will vote, or how; but what is extraordinarily important is thiswho will count the votes, and how.
Я считаю, что совершенно неважно, кто и как будет в партии голосовать; но вот что чрезвычайно важно, это - кто и как будет считать голоса.

(14,628 posts)Who could possibly fuck up a campaign like he has, unless it was intentional? Given the weak field in the repuke primary, and the lackluster economy, he should be polling much better by now. No one is really as gaffe-prone as this jackass pretends to be.
I never thought he really wanted to be president. I think he's just making a feeble attempt to fulfill the Mormon white horse(shit) prophecy, or whatever the hell it's called, just so his Mormon associates will get off his back. Then he gets to go back to playing monocle-guy on Monopoly.

(46,436 posts)They've got all their ducks in a row -- the voter suppressions, the big money, the lies, an entire network in their pockets -- why wouldn't he think he's going to win? And he just may.
I'm not all that confident about November, honestly. There's no reason in the world why the polls should be so close now given what we know about Romney and Ryan. It leads me to believe that there may be just enough uninformed hateful people in the US to pull this off for them.

(3,596 posts)he has a good chance at becoming President of some Americans. The question is which Americans are those? Are they only the 1% plus the nut-case evangelicals? I don't know.
A part of me wants to believe he thinks his plan will lead to paradise, at least for some Americans. He might have to put on his blinders to look away from the poverty, death and destruction outside of his compound home but still, there is paradise for the few.
Core Mormonism is at abject opposite from his life experience and worldview.

(14,177 posts)I don't think he will win. But, people have pointed out the obvious that republicans will cheat. I don't think they will be able to pull off enough cheating to tip the scales. But, then again I didn't think the GOP was full of so many twatrockets.

(611 posts)He's trying to establish new precedents for our election cycles, while relying on Citizens United (seriously, someone invent something else we can call this), voter purges, not being the minority incumbent, and possibly a return of Rove's 2004 Double-Secret Magic Numbers to carry him to victory no matter what he does or doesn't do.

(20,226 posts)The over all consensus is that Obama has a significant advantage at this point. But there certainly is no serious student or expert on elections who does not consider it well with in the range of possibility that Romney could win. I think he recognizes that he has a good chance and I suspect he thinks that he can pull it off. He could you know. I doubt that he will. But he could.

(34,845 posts)Because although I try not to take enjoyment of anyone else's misery, I will disregard that for the sheer joy of seeing this idiot's ego crushed into a singularity.
And may the black hole that develops from that take the rest of the GOP with him!

(2,682 posts)He doesn't have to try, he doesn't have to woo the voters, he doesn't need a comprehensive plan, he doesn't have to even show up. The Republicans underestimated the margin by which they needed to cheat in 2008. They won't be making that mistake again. Republicans own the voting machines which means they control the outcome. I won't be at all surprised if he wins -- I'll vomit for a week, but I won't be surprised.

He's in a bubble on purpose so he doesn't have to hear that he might lose.
Of course, I'm in a bubble too. A different one. I don't listen to Fox etc and love that MSNBC tells me everyday "we're gonna win!"

(25,415 posts)He is running because he was brought up in his family to do so. He has tons of money behind him and the economy is not great so he thought he had a good chance. But he is so uncomfortable with the public and is staying so many stupid things that he is blowing it. He is the much less classy version of John McCain.
JohnnyRingo
(18,640 posts)Otherwise he'd have cleaned up his finances instead of waiting until the last second and offering up redacted statements. Few serious politicians would get caught with their pants down like that.
I don't think the party thought he'd be where he is now either. The lead up to the nomination featured eveyone but Sister Sarah herself in a sad game of musical chairs that left only only Mitt seated when the music suddenly stopped. It was then the party when into panic mode and began painting his conservative credentials, finally tagging him with a Tea Party running mate.
Republicans can't even run a political party, let alone the country.

It'll be close, I think. But so far, it's looking good.

(657 posts)Just like McCain he thought this was it, his turn. And he knew when it's your turn, they cheat if they have to. But not him, he lost to the black man with a strange name. I think that brought him back to earth, they told him it was his turn, but they never wanted him, it was their way to get rid of him once and for all. Now it's Romneys turn ,that's how they get rid of these guys. They cheated for Bush, he was the one they wanted. I don't think they want Romney, he's a filler and he don't know it. This opens the door for Ryan, him they want.

(2,850 posts)He's probably aware that he is flailing a bit.
On the other hand, he can still win if Obama has a catastrophe of some sort, or if the disenfranchisement initiatives work particularly well. He probably (correctly, IMO) realizes that he still has a chance.
