they mean by that, it seems to me that their answers sort of add up to "return to the 1950s". You know---"when the air was clean and sex was dirty" and women and people of color "knew their place".
But, another aspect of those times was that if a man said in public many of the things Donald Trump has, he'd find himself on the floor spitting teeth. I, for one, recall seeing such happenings in "the good old days".

Other industrial cities weren't any better.
Things were pretty bad for women and people of color, too. As for types like the WH squatter spitting teeth, it depended on the company. He would have fit right in some places.
