Jeremy Richman, father of Sandy Hook Shooting victim Avielle Richman, found dead

in suspected suicide. This news of a third suicide due to senseless gun violence is beyond upsetting.

The father of a Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre victim was found dead in Newtown, Connecticut, on Monday in what police are calling an apparent suicide.

Jeremy Richman, 49, a neuropharmacologist, was discovered at Edmond Town Hall on Newtown's Main Street by officers responding to a report of a suicide at 7 a.m., according to the Newtown Police Department.

Richman's daughter, Avielle, was among the 20 first-graders and six adults killed during the 2012 Sandy Hook massacre, police confirmed.

He was the founder of the Avielle Foundation, which aims "to prevent violence through brain health research and fostering community." The nonprofit is housed in Edmond Town Hall.

Richman and his wife were among the families who sued right-wing radio host and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, alleging he had defamed them by repeatedly claiming that the Sandy Hook shooting was a hoax.

Said that the parents of the Sandy Hook victims were crisis actors?

I guess this 'crisis actor' decided to commit suicide, over his crisis actor daughter..

Karma, please catch up with Jones ASAP!

There were 6 families of the victims of the Sandy Hook shooting who won a lawsuit against Alex Jones for the lies that he spread about it being a hoax. The Richman family was one of the families involved in the lawsuit.

20 first graders were gunned down and 6 adults.

20 FIRST GRADERS

And 2 amendment (our government) protects these monsters.

The families heartbreak and grief will NEVER end. And now this. 3 suicides.

I wonder how the other survivors of this school shooting are handling it.

These families have been through so much. I guess it's hard to keep on fighting when you see that the rich, powerful and evil always seem to get their way. Third suicide this week from someone who was directly affected by a school shooting. Fuck the NRA and all the gun humpers out there.

But NRA and the politicians they finance have zero empathy or even basic human decency. Those people do not belong anywhere near power.
Sandy Hook is the most tragic event in US history (for me). I remember when it happened, I couldn’t even focus on anything for days, it was so overwhelming.

Two MSD survivors and one Sandy Hook survivor have committed suicide in the space of one week? There haven't been a lot of suicides in that population before now, and we just saw three in one week.

I'm starting to wonder if they actually are suicides.

The New York Times also has an article about this tragedy.

I feel it's imperative for mental health resources to be available to all survivors, family and friends.

Who knows what finally pushed them (3 in total in just one week, 2 from Parkland survivors) over the edge. It could be the political climate in general or something personal and specific. If they were already feeling hopeless and exhausted, the overall depressed feeling in the US right now could have been a contributing factor too. I know several people who have done this. Very specific reasoning is behind each person's individual decision.

The father has been dealing with this in a very real way for over 6 years. He must have felt frustrated from years of efforts trying to make real changes to help others in the same situation. I know I would have been absolutely exhausted coupled with hopelessness.
