Even the Dems aren't very impressed with her apparently.

*Edit: then again, if the people of Maine like her (how that is possible I don't know), then not much we can do about that. Unbelievable.

Susan Collins is ranked more favorably because she has name recognition and Sara Gideon does not. That should change once Gideon gets more exposure.

That is the real takeaway. Not the kneejerk OP reaction.

The same poll shows most Mainiacs favor a national health plan. They're sure as shit not getting it with Collins. If Gideon can get her name out she could win. Unseating an incumbent is hard though. Name recognition usually wins.

if she decides to run for this senate seat. She's currently in her second term as speaker in Maine's house of representatives. Obviously a leader and not exactly a lightweight.

She's about 48 and has the kind of good foundation of experience, in this case local and state government, that most should want in someone seeking to be a powerful U.S. senator. Here's a votesmart link: https://votesmart.org/candidate/key-votes/137334/sara-gideon#.XJqJlyJKiig

And here's this on a very recent activity to kick off inquiry into who she is:

Bill unveiled to create universal paid family, medical leave in Maine: Democratic House Speaker Sara Gideon released details Tuesday on a bill that would create a universal paid family and medical leave program in Maine.

But she certainly seems like a worthy candidate. Of this is the state that elected LePage so who knows whart any Dems' chances are.

of Maine state government. Previously, control of government was divided between Republicans, who held the governorship and state Senate, and Democrats, who held the state House."

Me either, and isn't the internet wonderful? Wickipedia might more accurately have said that last fall Maine's electorate gave Democratic Party trifecta control of state government.

People post polls on DU without verifying them. The poll could be from some rightwing 2 man shop that is trying to get democrats to make a bad move. Gideon is a very dangerous rival for Collins in the fall of 2020.

I literally never heard Gideon's name before and I've lived 3 miles from the border for a quarter century. "We" may be able to do okay with this candidate but first we need her vetted and supported by the party. Then let's begin polling.
