Totally Off subject - today the most popular broadcaster in Jamaica died

She was 59. She read the morning news and co-hosted Prime Time TV News at 7.00pm.
I can tell you Jamaica is in mourning (it was mentioned in Parliament earlier) but that's not the hardest part of this.
Dorraine Samuels co-hosted the morning program with Alan Magnus, a radio institution in his own right - for about 50 years. He retired a few years ago - she resigned in December.

Alan's wife and Dorraine were both in the same hospital last week. Alan's wife died on Thursday last week from the flu. Dorraine died earlier this afternoon - from pancreatic cancer - a wicked disease. People referred to Alan and Dorraine as if they were husband and wife. It was a joke - his real wife and his radio wife. Both women loved it -
I knew both women - Dorraine was one of the most calm persons I ever met - disciplined, professional and polite.

I find this so - you couldn't make this up - that I had to post about it. Life is odd.
Radio Jamaica is playing music to make everyone cry and interspersing it with jingles from her programs. The pain is over girl - peace.

Pancreatic cancer is such a cruel disease. I am so sorry to hear about the loss of such a wonderful person.

for a media personality but she was larger than life and a fixture in our homes for 40 years.
I feel it for her family and for poor Alan who has lost his wife and his radio partner.

I've lost several lately, mostly from self abuse.
Two are in the hospital, one here , one in Tucson.
It is gut-wrenching. I struggle with the depression it causes.
But spring is finally here. A little planting, a little warmth.
Life goes on. So sorry mal.

so many people are dying as they do when we reach a certain age.
The thing is Dorraine was 59 - that is so young.

I am sorry for their loss for you, Mr Alan and the many who knew and loved them. May they rest in peace, and never be forgotten. Prayers for their loved ones that they will be comforted, and blessed. Peace malaise.

When you have seen and heard a person for so long on TV and radio, they are like a member of your family. My condolences to you and all who were within the sound of her voice.

When they asked her to o TV Prime Time news, she resisted. She didn't want to be known publicly and yet she was so gracious to strangers.

without us really recognizing it. I'm glad that this woman left such an impression on the citizens of Jamaica. It takes a special person to do that.

in the morning was hilarious - and she started so young that every young person grew up with her.

I find that the singers and actors also become part of our being.
Dorraine was so calm during hurricane preparations. She will be missed.
