even through his Apprentice days, he was gold. In the documentary you see people in NYC fawning all over him. My mom talks about how exciting it was to walk near him one day. He was surrounded by body guards. I didn't even think he was crazy until later on.

People fawned over him because they thought he was rich. I do not think Donald Trump was really that great of a self promoter. He was given attention because he claimed to be rich and did not have a problem getting in front of a television camera. We are seeing something similar with Howard Schultz. Schultz is being given attention mainly because he is rich. The same thing can be said about a number of rich people. They are given attention because they are rich, or claim to be rich.

Like a rock star back then. People literally swooned around him. He constantly did things to promote his image on the backs of others. I don't think he could have gotten away with it in today's social media world.

all I know is that we gave the name Marla, to a Silver Maple transplanted as a volunteer sprout from our front yard to back yard way back in 1990. We all watched it grow, the kids loved climbing in it and great fun was made of both the tree and it's name because of all the press the Maple/Trump gang was getting then.

Silver maples aren't great trees, they grow fast and mature early but this one grew straight, full and tall and is now an unusually robust 45 feet high. It was a mistake to transplant Marla Maple where we did, and if I could do it again, I wouldn't. I'm guessing it has another 20-30 years left if we don't have to take it down first and we'll likely be long gone by then.
