Sam Stein, in the Daily Beast tonight:

The embrace came in two steps: with the Department of Justice siding with a lower court ruling that declared the health care law invalid in toto and with the president tweeting that the Republican Party would become the party of health care reform. And it quickly complicated what was widely viewed as one of the best weeks of Trumps presidency. Ebullient over a four-page summarization of Special Counsel Robert Muellers investigation into Russias meddlinga summarization that said the president was not guilty of collusionTrump suddenly found himself back in a debate that has vexed his administration.
GOP officials couldnt help but marvel at Trumps inability to enjoy a rare grace period. They are completely tone deaf, texted one of the partys top strategists. How bout a few more victory laps on Mueller while you can get away with it? WTF is wrong with them?
But seasoned Trump hands were hardly surprised at the rake Trump had placed his foot on. And theres something unusual about him stepping on a good message? one former administration official said, laughing when asked about the timing of the announcement.

Trump did little to alleviate the anxiety later on Tuesday, when he addressed Senate Republicans and reiterated his desire to tackle health care reform again but, according to several senators, didnt offer any specifics.
Asked if the president had outlined a plan on health care, Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO) simply said no. Several GOP lawmakers on both sides of the Capitol also avoided elaborating on details of a plan from their side, and deferred to the ongoing judicial process.

I don't think it's going to pass the House, Newt Gingrich, former House Speaker and an informal adviser to Trump, conceded to The Daily Beast.
Other allies of the president also saw potential hazard ahead. When asked if he thinks its wise for President Trump and the GOP to go back down this road on Obamacare, Barry Bennett, a former senior adviser to the Trump campaign, said it depends which part. Pre-existing conditions [protections are] widely popular, though Bennett said everything else has been a failure.
Those close to the president say that part of what motivates him on continuing his pursuit in scrapping the Affordable Care Act, even after past failures, is his inability to move beyond setbacks. When other party stalwarts or members of the Republican elite see a liability and political third rails, Trump simply sees the visceral satisfaction of erasing a cornerstone of the Obama legacy.

The administrations hope is that a court ruling invalidating Obamacare will compel those Democrats to compromise. But few GOP officials imagine that a resolution would be found shortly thereafter, if one could be found at all. And they figure that in the absence of a replacement bill, Trump would shoulder the blame.

(3,344 posts)That article is completely missing one thing: A demand from any sitting Republican to go on the record about whether they are FOR or AGAINST this move by the DOJ. Why is it so fucking hard for the media to press Republicans on this simple question?
EVERY Republican should be asked about this ruling every day!

(51,626 posts)and spoke on record today along with another GOP in power. A pundit said that the fucking moron is doing this because he wants to take attention away from Medicare For All and split up the ACA supporters. That makes sense to me.
I personally think he is a sadistic, narcissistic sociopath and he enjoys hurting people (he has since he was a kid according to old neighbors and schoolmates). He is also incredibly immature and is doing this out of spite over Obama. He feels empowered now after the Barr Opinion was released.

(22,913 posts)Trump is a vindictive asshole. He got scorched for tearing into a dead American "hero" so he finally had to very reluctantly back off on that, which pisses him off no end. That is the only variable that changed that made him override his cabinet regarding full repeal. He has to erase McCain from the history book now whenever he can. McCain famously prevented full repeal of Obamacare, so now Trump insists that Obamacare be fully repealed to make McCain's action futile in retrospect. Trump is so petty you can virtually predict his every move based on how bruised or hungry his ego is.

You voted for this vainglorious idiot tyrant.
What are you prepared to do before he hurts you too?

(18,837 posts)It's all very simple. This is what I've gleaned from non-Fox, non-NYT media today:
1). Barr "exonerates" Trump
2). Trump staff is having "celebratory dinners" and plotting revenge
3). Trump makes a major play to the base, because they STILL hate ObamaCare, and it was a campaign "promise."
Trump will not do a single goddamned thing between now and November 2020 other than "seek revenge" and campaign for re-election.

(7,639 posts)Under orders from Dear Leader, of course, they will propose bills to re-introduce some of the ACA's more life saving and popular features like covering some parts of pre-existing conditions but they'll attach bathroom bill and anti abortion riders or connect life saving parts of the new Trump health care bill to mandatory school prayers to Jebus and the like.
Pass this or die they'll say.
