There are several DU regulars who frequently post opinions which spike my blood pressure

and motivate me to compose irate and "righteous" responses which (believe it or not) I usually delete before posting. Because, you know what? I have so much more in common with the DUers who piss me off than I do with the Republicans who want to piss on me.

Let's argue, cuss, discuss and POST IN ALL CAPS as the spirit moves us. But, let's please remember that---except for the trolls--- we're among friends here.

Each of us has had our turn at posting something stupid or just plain wrong---often in the heat of anger. Most of us have gotten unnecessarily "personal" in some of our posts and some of us have gotten our knickers in a twist by what we saw as another poster's personal attack on us. We need the passion, but any anger it generates needs to be short term and soon forgotten. There is too much at stake to allow ourselves to waste time with in-house pissing contests. Okay?

but I was too lazy to look up the correct spelling. At my age nearing 79, hate has long disappeared from my brain. I just appreciate there are so many good and cheerful people I run into, such as yourself. Life is too short to waste on hate.

....and start an argument. Whether they are trolls or just plain assholes who want to start a fight, I just laugh and ignore them and feel sorry for them because they clearly have way too much time on their hands and have some serious issues and anger and I guess that is how they get off.

But I agree with you - for the most part we are among friends here.

However I remember the old saying that honey attracts more flies than vinegar. Also I understand that everyone has different personal politics and is as human as I am in that we all have bad days. I feel that being a liberal means being willing to do long hard looks in the proverbial mirror. It also means putting yourself in someone else's shoes and looking at the world through their eyes.

The hardest thing to do is loving your enemy though. How do you love a group that defends Nazi's who run over protestors or who throw kids in cages. Perhaps you can do enough mental gymnastics to understand that they have been severly brainwashed and that there but the grace of god go I (under certain circumstances we could have been similarly brainwashed). These people haven't exercised the part of their souls capable of empathy that the feeling is all but foreign to them. What can good people do to help them? Can they be helped? How do we as a people live with these people and their similarly brainwashed children in society in the long run? I don't really have a good answer to these questions. I hope that the human race can figure this out.

since about then and I didn't have anybody on Ignore until the Snowden incident. One poster in particular made me want to smash my computer every time I read his/her posts and after avoiding all said posts for awhile I finally remembered Ignore. Since then the list has lengthened a bit, but still limited to people who make every subject under the sun about there pet ideology.

There are DUers I disagree with regularly.
But they never resort to personal attacks.
And next week I want to rec their thread and once in a blue moon they rec mine.

Right now I can’t listen to trump news. I’m physically ill. But I can glean plenty here on DU.

But best of all it’s the friends you make. Someone sends you DU mail once and you realize this whole new level of comraderie.

When I do feel bad vibes, I do check profiles. I find them most interesting.

Also, I concur, ignore really works wonders.
