But. She is the voice of the future. She is fighting hard against the entrenched old white man establishment and I applaud what she stands for. She stands for change.
She is a pioneer and honestly, it makes me think that our Congress needs to reflect more of what the country looks like.
Millenials are now the largest voting block in this country and I think our Congress and country in general needs to reflect it.
The legislative damage that is being done during this badministration is going to affect THEM and their children more than anyone else.
I hope that we have MORE like AOC in the elections in the coming years. I hope that the concerns that she brings to the table are met with more like her to help achieve the lofty goals that she has proposed.
SO while I am not a huge fan, I am certainly a fan and want to see more of the change that she represents.

stood up for womens equal rights. We were young, we were right, and we were unafraid.

(21,675 posts)I'm getting old, and it's really not my world anymore. I'm happy to see the AOC and others stepping up to the plate! With her green new deal, I can imagine what it was like at the turn of the 20th century and the change that was fought for then. The energy oligarchs will not give up their $$$ without a fight, and imo, this is all about the $$$.

(16,786 posts)when she went into so many things that will affect my children, Grandchildren, and their children when I am long gone. That this country has the ability to move into the 22nd century now and the resistance from Republicans is so evident. They see AOC as a threat to their patriarchial hold on this Government.
AOC can be the town crier to the younger voters that this is going to be their world and that they need to get their heads out from their derriers and get working and VOTE.
The 2020 Election is going to be a game changer for sure.

Answered questions about the New Deal in a historical context nicely.
Se even thanked the head of the flight attendant union for helping to end the government shutdown.
She has an awareness of herself, of big ideas, and of human relations that add up to great congress member.

Face it, the military industrial complex is this country's biggest jobs program. It has been since WWII. It's been the road to prosperity in this country for my entire life, and it's the wrong road. We are building aircraft carriers when the largest and most deadly attack on us in history was carried out by people armed with box cutters.

And frankly, if they don't start voting in numbers, the Democratic party is doomed.

(7,628 posts)people and get them to the polls. She is that kinds of person. Many are cynical of our government and rightfully so because in my opinion most politicians on both sides of the isle are more interested in donations than policy changes and corporations tend to have the deep pockets that can push their policies and that takes place more than just during election season.
The traits I see in AOC is that she is articulate, understands the world we live in and maybe most importantly is not afraid to tell it like it is. I am disappointed in the recent Green New Deal vote - it didn't show me any courage from our side but it is what it is. We need to be bold in our efforts and not be ashamed to challenge the status quo.

(17,306 posts)I don't agree with all of her positions, of course (applicable to any politician, some more than others), but she's innovative, fierce and she's a disruptor who makes the complacent old boys club sweat. Glad she's on our side.

(82,383 posts)She is not infallible. She is not necessarily the absolute voice of the future - there are other people her age. Getting into office young might make her influential, but not every young person is monolithically infallible either. She does lack experience and getting more might improve her.
