William Barr's Secret Pro-Trump Memo

JAN. 15, 2019
By Jonathan Chait

Last month, The Wall Street Journal ... reported that William Barr, President Trump’s nominee for attorney general, had sent the Department of Justice an unsolicited 20-page memo arguing against prosecuting Trump for obstruction of justice ...

... now a new report by CNN says the Journal had it wrong. According to “a source familiar with the discussions,” Barr “discussed the memo with Trump prior to his nomination” ...

So the fact that the president .. appointed a candidate who had submitted a long defense of Trump to the president’s lawyers turns out not to have been a massive coincidence ...

Barr had a long career, and most of it was tolerable. Now, as with EVERYONE who comes in contact with Dump, he will be exposed as the cockroach he really is, and whatever history says ab out him will be justified. Stupid people.

In the history books, written by the winners.

Or if not books, selected tweets from the dear leader.

It seems that nearly everyone who links his fortunes to Trump ends up in jail sooner or later.

9. Barr is the point man for a MASSIVE GOP coverup operation.

He was billed as a sane, reasonable voice of decorum when he was nominated. The reality is that Barr is nothing more than a GOP operative who gets called in when one of them gets into serious legal jeopardy.

He gets appointed knowing he will FIX whatever mess the republicons have created. Iran-Contra should ring a few bells.

The press quickly bought the bogus line that Bill Barr is a solid establishment lawyer with deep respect for the law.

Bill Barr is a hack. He "fixed" the Iran-Contra outcome by orchestrating the Bush41 pardons of most of the convicted players during his lame duck period. Bush, himself, was up to his eyeballs in crime and corruption.

Barr promised Trump this outcome when he "interviewed" for the AG job. He is the personal attorney that Trump thought he had in Sessions.

This was all known prior to confirmation. The GOP Senate continue to enable this ongoing corruption.
