This is Watergate on steroids. No evidence was uncovered that Nixon planned or approved or even knew about the break-in beforehand, but the tapes finally proved that he tried to cover it up afterwards by telling the CIA to get the FBI to stop investigating - that was the obstruction of justice part. So even if Mueller concluded that Trump didn't "collude" with Russia (and we don't know that; we only know what Barr says he said), it's pretty clear that he tried to cover up evidence of his campaign's contacts with Russians. And Mueller didn't reach a conclusion about obstruction. It's still hanging out there.

Nixon was pretty evil but he wasn't as stupid as Trump. Nixon's attorney general went to prison for obstruction, btw.

having Cognitive issues. Yesterday and the "oranges" thing was a serious mental break down. Do not think today there are high level meetings world wide concerning that break down yesterday.

Think about it.

4. we've got way past nixon, imho.

there are certainly some similarities, particularly regarding the cover-up/obstruction.

but there the similarities pretty much end. nixon was politically savvy, and i think he genuinely wanted what was best for america (aside from thinking winning at all costs is ok), even if i disagreed with him on a number of policy matters.

donald fraud is an incompetent conman and has zero interest in what's good for america. he's only interested in what's good for himself. unlike nixon, he has no clue as to how the world actually works and he has zero interest in figuring it out. he's the front man for the con, so all he wants to do is spout his dream of how the world should bend around him and get mean and angry until other people make it so somehow.

whatever nixon was, it was a far cry from an ill-tempered 5-year old.

moreover, donald fraud is in a much better position to turn america into a dictatorship than nixon was. we can only guess if nixon might have behaved similarly, but times were different then. america believed in its norms, the media believed in actual news, and everyone believed in the constitution.

today, republicans have figured out that foxnews and brainwashed masses trumps the constitution.

was expected to win in a landslide would have any staff doing something as stupid as the Watergate break-in. Then when it became obvious that he and his henchmen tried to coverup and obstruct justice, I was aghast.
I ended up realizing that they were all crooks, hungry for power and money. It was very eye-opening.

Then, later, I read an excellent book about ADM (the informant) and how the corporation was involved in the hush money part as well as price-fixing. It keeps coming together.

This is all the same kind of stuff. Obtaining power, selling favors, rigging the system, lining their pockets.

Bob Woodward. I think he hasn't worn well and maybe let being played in the movie by handsome Robert Redford go to his head. He's kinda conservative now and nothing like the dashing Redford in the movie.

Chump has neither, and the difference is obvious to all of us.

I remember Watergate very well, and I will say that the actions and attitudes of the Republican Party are quite different this time. In the Watergate investigation, Nixon had already been re-elected and was serving his 2nd term. The Senators and Congressmen weren't under such a terrible pendulum of trying to get re-elected. The GOP supported the President - but only to a point. They could all clearly see that Nixon was done after the tapes were turned over. It seems that these GOP (the current crop) are either so scared - or so brainwashed - that they will never see anything.

In 1972 Nixon got re-elected by a huge landslide, probably the largest in US history. And yet, there was no "base" to be kowtowed to, the party leaders were the ones in charge and they decided Nixon was done. That was it, he had to resign. Of course there were no foreign countries meddling, and big-shot party donors had very little say in how the GOP was to be run in those days. Yep - it's quite different this time.

think of the Republicans in office when Nixon was POTUS. It was a Republican who went to the White House and talked him into resigning. Republicans at that time cared about country over party and Nixon had enough brains to know his goose was cooked and got out. Trump will never do that. We'll be lucky to ever get him out.

From 1969 moon landing, Watergate, Viet-Nam..... even tho they may have been too young at the time.

Nixon was a very ambitious crook who managed to survive scandal and end up as VP under Eisenhower. Look up "Nixon's checkers speech" for a quick explanation, there are vids on Youtube of it too.

Nixon ended up drinking heavily, which was covered up by his inner circle in the WH.

The interesting comparison between him and trump is that Nixon was pretty intelligent, while we know trump is quite stupid,
but huge egos and a thirst for power and glory seem to be the same.

I often wonder how far Nixon could have gone with today's internet capabilities, and the current state of MSM.
Back then, McConnell would not have been able to pull the shit he does today, either.

We have really gone down the rabbit hole this time around.
