Kris Kobach Wants 'Processing Towns' For Asylum-Seeking Families

By Matt Shuham

April 3, 2019 12:20 pm

In what sounded a bit like an Alex Jones fever dream, former Kansas Secretary of State and potential Trump administration appointee Kris Kobach suggested Wednesday that the government create “processing town” detention centers for asylum-seekers along the southern border.

Instead of selling “the thousands of empty mobile home trailers that the United States owns right now,” Kobach told Fox Business Network’s Lou Dobbs in an interview, “deploy them to border cities and create processing towns that are confined.”

“And so when someone comes in and falsely claims asylum, we don’t release them for six months onto the streets of the United States, we process them right there in that camp, where they have the three square meals, they’re living in a nice mobile home,” Kobach said. “And then as soon as they’re done, as soon as the claim is rejected, they’re on the next plane back home.”

Kobach also urged the Department of Homeland Security to publish the final version of a proposed change to the so-called Flores settlement, spelling out, in Kobach’s words, “how we can detain entire families together.”

Currently, the Flores settlement says DHS can only detain migrant and asylum-seeking children for 20 days before transferring custody of them to the Department of Health or Human Services or another, less restrictive setting, such as a sponsor family member’s home. The proposed change would allow ICE, in the government’s words, to “use appropriate facilities to detain family units together during their immigration proceedings, consistent with applicable law.”

What they really want is Auschwitz, Treblinka, Sobibor, and Mauthausen!

Don't fool yourself, Kobach, Dobbs, and the rest want to exterminate people of color...they'll begin with those who cross the border and once that source dries up...they will turn their attention internally and begin to put Americans of color into those camps!!!

Kobach has already proved what a truly evil fuck he is capable of being...now Trump wants to give him another chance!!!

Hold them for months, then when they're rejected send them home. No presumption that maybe some would be granted asylum.

Something other than cages or sleeping rough under highways isn't a bad idea, might even be considered humane. Can bet that the GOP would be happy to contract to the same fine folks that run the current camps/prisons for serious money without requiring oversight to guarantee that healthy living conditions are maintained.

This Junta's DHS/FEMA aren't known for their successes in housing at risk populations. This whole idea gives me the creeps and KK is just the right guy to make it all work out well given his career in public service.

pretends to gloss it over.

There are already plans afoot for locking up hundreds of thousands of not just IM-migrants, but people who've lived both legally and illegally in the U.S. for decades, even naturalized citizens, including veterans, whose citizenship is being revoked..

These people don't care enough to triage 100 people at the desert border to make sure no one's in danger from dehydration. Children are being sexually abused and physically attacked in the holding camps now. What would happen to hundreds of thousands imprisoned by them?

And what would happen to others if their power to hurt expanded? They're already coming after those citizens they can get away with right now, legally and illegally.

...for their own protection, perhaps?

Crap, I can't go on with the analogy. We all know where we are and where this is going.
