how about a law where tax returns for a certain number of years are released if they file to run for president ?

(5,325 posts)While each state holds its own election, an argument could and no doubt would be made that that would amount to changing the eligibility requirements for the presidency as outlined in the Constitution and that can only be done by constitutional amendment.
Or not. But I can't imagine that such a thing would not be decided, ultimately, by the Supremes.

(11,569 posts)The Senate Finance Committee chair also has the same authority. They can see the return for any US citizen or company. All they have to do is ask and the IRS has to comply. Its the law.
