Chick-fil-A banned from second airport in two weeks

Plans for a Chick-fil-A restaurant at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport in New York were nixed late last week, a New York state lawmaker said.

Democratic Assemblyman Sean Ryan of Buffalo said the airport's food vendor notified him that they would not add a Chick-fil-A restaurant to the food court.

Ryan applauded the decision, saying that the owners of the fast-food chain have a history of supporting and funding anti-LGBTQ organizations.

“The views of Chick-fil-A do not represent our state or the Western New York community, and businesses that support discrimination have no place operating in taxpayer-funded public facilities,” he said in a statement.

They pay more than surrounding places and don't ask--and the manager doesn't care if they tell. Except that if any of the kids are talking to the customers about sex, they get fired. As is appropriate in just about any normal retail environment.

The kids like having Sunday off. They know Saturday nights will be free; and they know that they have Sunday to study for any Monday tests or do any projects that are due.

Nobody Goes There Anymore, It's Too Crowded - Yogi Berra

Years ago, I had a friend who had a knack for discovering GREAT restaurants, days and weeks before the inevitable hot review was published. When we would revisit the restaurants we were inevitably disappointed to see what they turned into.

But, Boy howdy, he did discover some of the best secret restaurants in the SF Bay Area, and we always kidded him about writing a restaurant guide book titled: I get hungry when I seen an awning, and thirsty when I see a neon sign.

breading applied to exterior, then pressure cooked in peanut oil. The the chicken breast is placed on a white bread bun with a couple of pickles. I'm sure there is more to the process, but after they put the sandwich in a foil pouch, the bun gets damp and the whole thing is a soggy mess. Instead of french fries, they serve waffle-cut fries. There is over 1300 mg sodium in one sandwich.

A niece bought me nuggets from Chick FIL A once, not after. There are plenty of Lee's, Wendy's and a chain called Zaksby's. Zaksby's is my favorite for chicken sandwiches since they offer grilled ones that are very good, I use Wendy's in a pinch for chicken sandwiches. The drive thru and crowd at Lee's can be insane, so I only use the one near my home on occasion. Of all the chains, Lee's has the best chicken, followed by Zaksby's.

You wind up with all kinds of pronouncements about how some really great literature is utter garbage because of the views of the writer. Stuff gets banned, because of the views of the writer's patron.

Meanwhile, complete tripe is pushed on the public as "virtuous" because the writer or the hero espouses the views considered by the political line of the government and the policies promoted by them to be correct. And everybody must signal how wonderfully correct they are by echoing and advancing the party line. The crap sits on their shelves, to show how correct they are, but actually read it ... Breaded turds with garlic-chocolate sauce on patacon would be preferable. Provided the turds come from a politically acceptable source.

Of course, when the official politics change and so the writer's politics are no longer deemed correct the text is pulled and in rare instances revised to be correct. Suddenly everybody says, "Ah! That's what I suspected! I see it now!" Watch them squirm when you ask, "So you thought that our Dear Leader was wrong when he praised the writer?"

You see the same thing among some in the US. Some really good actor comes out in support of something reactionary and suddenly his (or her) work was always retrograde, substandard, and, well, the only recourse is to acknowledge how sucky s/he'd always been and retract his (or hers) films, awards, and re-evaluate everything.

You saw the same among some in the US perhaps 20 years ago. "I really like this book!" "Did you know the writer was gay? How progressive of you!" "Did I say I like it? It's utter crap." Of course, the "How progressive of you!" comment embeds the same kind of "politics should determine tastes and culture" views that I, for one, find ridiculous. I like Tchaikovsky; speculation over his sexual proclivities has no bearing on how I perceive his music. I've known people who hear the speculation and say, "Ugh! How vile! Yes, it's definitely substandard" and those who say, "Oh? Really? Maybe I should give him a second listen." To both I respond, "Ugh."

There are none near me, but we always try to stop at one when traveling. Every fast food type restaurant could learn from their fantastic customer service.

They dont seem to try and make a bigger profit by cutting staff as there always seems to be extra people working to keep customers happy. For example, they send people out into the drive in lanes to take orders on tablets to speed up the lines. I will also say that every employee seems to be cheerful and pleasant.

And while I liked KFC years ago, now I find their chicken dry and lacking in actual meat. I still like their breading. But then I wind up eating fat-soaked tasting breading and realize that I could go 500 yards and have actual meat with slightly less tasty breading. The Igeling does not like Chic-Fil-A. If I want to go to Chik-Fil-A, I suggest, "How about KFC?" Upon quelling the Igeling-wrath, I suggest CFA as an alternative and he reluctantly says, "Okay."

and yes their employees are trained very well to make you feel like a valued customer. Some of the best at that in the business. But once I heard the former owner gave millions of dollars to anti-LGBTQ organizations I quit going there.

However, I will give credit where it's due - When the Pulse shooting happened the location closest to the Pulse (just a mile and change away) opened up on a Sunday to bring free food and drinks to first responders and grieving family and friends gathered outside. They didn't advertise it or brag about it afterwards. They just showed up and helped. I believe that was the decision of the franchisee and their employees so I don't know how the parent organization took it but they are still there and I drive by very often and think about the days when I could eat there.

Fri Apr 5, 2019, 07:28 PM

The group in question says that sex between same-sex partners is wrong.

Oddly, it also says that sex between opposite-sex partners is wrong.

I hear people mention the first, making it seem like it's uniquely anti-gay-sex. Now, it also doesn't approve of being gay, but that's a minor footnote in a late paragraph. In 8 years of being around them, I haven't heard it mentioned. Note that this is *before* the Chic-Fil-A scandal. I'd also note that if you're the kind of Xian that would belong to it, you're unlikely to be extremely open in being gay.

I don't hear people pointing out the second part, which makes it equal in how it views pre-marital sex. Note that since it's a high-school organization that the kids I know belong to, there aren't just a lot of married men or women eligible to belong. Hence its non-issue-hood.

Its membership is a bit more openly anti-gay than most. On the other hand, I can't discern membership in the organization just based on anti-gay attitudes. It's mostly a male jock thing, not a "fellowship" thing.
