I used to love it, but I simply don't eat it any more because I don't want to put any money into the pocket of a bunch of homophobic bigots.
I don't think Dennis Miller suddenly stopped being funny when his politics went to the dark side. I won't attend one of his concerts because I don't wish to provide support for what he currently espouses, but I still laugh at replays of some of his old specials.
I think James Woods was a decent actor, with numerous stellar supporting stints, although he appears to personally be an asshole. Not attending his movies is sort of a moot point by now, so there's that.
I also think Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus are the two greatest golfers in history, even though each is friendly with Donald Fucking Trump.
(Mitch McConnell, on the other hand, needs to put a fifty pound dumbbell in each hand and find some quicksand.)
But still, does my ability to compartmentalize make me a "bad" liberal?

(4,608 posts)even down to the pickle. We don't eat drive thru food very often, but when we do it's Chik Fil A. It's the best fast food out there, imho, and the restaurant is always clean. I hate their politics, but won't eat McDonald's or other gross fast food offerings.

But I do miss the sandwiches.
Dennis Miller did stop being funny about the time W got "elected".

(7,628 posts)You can make money on "bad" companies (fossil fuel, agrochemical, etc) but in general when the market goes up you make money when it goes down you lose - so why do it.
As far as people/athletes I could care less in terms of dollars spent based upon their chums. I do admire those that speak out and are activists but most are progressive. So I just think - why bother it's a free country (so far).
I do not like the Chic-fil-a and Hobby Lobby type companies that clearly use their religious beliefs as a marketing gimmick (I think) so I just don't frequent them.
No, I don't think you are a bad liberal any more than someone being against fossil fuels not driving an electric car. As long as you vote for people that represent your values and not your neighbors, parents, churches values.

(66,387 posts)I still listen to Dennis Miller's old liberal stuff occasionally. It was funny and erudite, so it appealed to me very much. I don't laugh anymore. I just listen with a certain wistfulness. We still have funny, caustic, intelligent liberal commentators, so no real loss there.
I always enjoyed James Wood's acting, too. His twitchy, febrile energy was very entertaining; and he played a few likable characters. I don't know what his real-life damage is, though. I'm cool if I never see another one of his films.
I tend to pick and choose my liberal compartmentalization. I think we all do. But I won't put money into the pockets of conservatives if I can help it.
