The law is clear. The IRS SHALL turn over to Congress any tax return it requests.
Even if Trump wants to claim executive privileged, this should not effect his returns before 2016, when he was a private citizen.

(4,448 posts)Even the most clearcut language is surrounded by hundreds of year of case law, appeals decisions, timing and politics. And in the case of a President, politics is probably the prime mover.
If law was precise, we wouldn't have judges. We would have decision buttons.

(5,500 posts)Not formally but informally. So they know what they are getting. And the importance of it. And 45 knows how important it is to make sure they cannot formally obtain them. Both sides know the stakes.
45 cannot let it get out that he is basically broke. That's the big lie that brings down all of the rest.
